Great tip!
Btw, if you add 2 more vertices to the circle you can select a face that is 90 deg aligned with the x and y axis. That way you can edit the left over face to be totally square (like steps usually are) :)

After setting params in array modifier, use the eyedropper under "Object Offset" to click on the empty.
Then rotate about Z.
Then grab Z to elevate vertical.
EDIT: I'm using Blender v3.0.

Shift+A Add Empty isn't available in Blender 3.30

Didn.t work for me I am afraid! the array with those parameters produce an array of objects scaling down towards the empty

There are a number of problems with this tutorial:
1) Doesn't say which version it's for, which matters.
2) Talks too fast; not a speed build. At least you can slow the video down, if need be.
3) Omits information. If this is for noobs, never assume they know what you mean. Spell it out.
