iRacing NEEDS to fix this...

iRacing NEEDS to fix their penalty system. While the incident point based system does mostly increase competitivness and fairness, it often does the opposite as well. In this example, the car overtaking me hits me, and because he hit another car, I receive the maximum penalty of 4x (affects your license safety rating). I'm sure what the solution is to this problem, but you rarely see an innocent party penalized in real life, so I don't think it should be the case in iRacing either. Thoughts?

its a no fault system. There really is no way to "fix" the system

Explain to me how an algorithm can accurately determine who is at fault in a racing incident. 90% of this community can’t get it right after watching “who’s at fault” videos 10 times. Professional racing stewards sometimes have a hard time.

It’s not a problem that can be fixed as it’s intentional. It’s a no blame system that is frustrating when working against us but beneficial when we make the mistake

No one's turn looked safe, controlled, or thoughtful of other racers in this clip. To reduce incidents, drive defensively in these risky moments.

I totally agree with you! I got out of rookies a few weeks ago and that was holding me back. I have at least 20 clips of people breaking checking me and I get 4 points and spun out.

Yep this is something you gotta get used to, iRacing's motto is "I don't care who caused the wreck everyone involved is getting penalized"

That's some "I just started iracing" shit to say. Rookie

You went skidding off the race line and corrected back into him… atleast that’s the way I see it.

this has debate has always been around, since day 1 of iracing.
the best argument I've heard:

IRL if you have an accident, even if there's absolutely nothing you could've done about it, you're just a victim of circumstance, you still have damage that needs to be fixed. you still have costs because of that damage. You might even be injured because of an accident that you couldn't do anything about.
it's not fair, but that's how it is. and that's how it's translated into the SR-system.

If you read the sporting code you would discover that incident points are not a blame or fault system.

We certainly understand how frustrating these incidents can be.
We understand that every iRacer will receive incident points as the result of being involved in accidents which they did not cause and were unable to avoid, particularly in the lower license levels.
However, it is impossible for us to accurately determine fault for every incident that happens in every race.
That is why we employ a “No Fault” penalty system and why we believe it is the best system for our service, given the number of drivers on the service and the number of races being run at any given time.
It’s also why, given the comparatively high rate of accidents, our safety ratings formulas are very forgiving in the lower levels.
We believe that anyone who is a safe driver will find it relatively easy to move to 4.0 rating in a short time.
Over time, safe drivers will be involved in fewer accidents than drivers who are less safe.
Those who are not safe will have to adjust their driving to advance their license rating.
If you’d care to read more about the specific philosophies behind the ratings and licensing systems, check the iRacing Sporting Code.

Name me a sim with a working blame system, I'll be waiting

It's a great system that works itself out. If you are constantly finding yourself in these situations, the system accurately determines that you are dangerous to drive around on the track. If this only happens to you once in a blue moon, the system works itself out the more time you spend on the track.

The 1st thing they should fixe is the tire model that makes a spec miata drive like its on 15x15 slicks with no slip angle

It’s designed this way to be a no fault system, been on here 12+ years now, it’s not changing and at this point I’m kind of glad about it

I can absolutely relate. And it's generally in MX5 that it's the worse because the car is pretty tricky to handle sometimes.

iRacing uses this “no fault” thing which basically gives you incidents if you get involved in the wreck no matter if it was not your fault. Its kind of dumb but it would be really hard to fix it.

The first premise in the iracing code of conduct is to ask yourself: Did I do everything I could to avoid that contact? If the answer is no, there you have your 4x

An automated penalty system will never work perfectly unless you literally spend months training an AI for it i guess

Alternatively you can have the system work just fine and a couple people get annoyed by it, then they forget the next day anyway
