How To Make A Spacenet: Part 2 Buying Materials

Hey Everybody! I now made an intro video about spacenets so here is part 2! This video goes over how to choose your perimeter for your net. There are 3 major options for this: Rope, Amsteel or Spansets. All are acceptable options... It comes down to what you plan to do with your net and what your budget is.

I've now made two spacenets with the most recent one having a 15m x 15m x 15m perimeter. This was huge! I made a few mistakes along the way and learned a lot of new things. I'd like to share the do's and dont's with all of you so that your first spacenet making experience is a fun one! Stay tuned for part 3!!

Quick heads up! I made a mistake on the breaking strength of spansets. I was actually looking at the WLL of spansets and not their MBS!

The WLL of EN2 (Green Spansets) is 5300lbs or 23kN.

The slings have a 5:1 safety ratio so they are more likely to break around 26, 500lbs or 117kN. Cheers! 😊

What do you like to use for a skeleton? Trying my first big net and am unsure what to use. People say 3/8" static rope, but should i use nylon, polyester etc...?

Wow great video! I want to start my first space net next month and I had a few questions! Can you show me how you rig your space net to the tree? Like what’s a good method and what do you use? And also if I just used the dream catcher method the whole way around until the center is that good enough for my first? It’s not going anywhere crazy just a couple feet off the ground in my backyard. Thank you!

I’ve seen tutorials say they’ve used “climbing rope” for the base. I climb with a dynamic rope, not a static rope. Just curious if this would be way too much stretch?

However, you should distinguish between Breaking strength (BS) and Working Load Limit (WLL). The green spansets have a WLL of 2 tons, and a safety factor of 7, so 14 tons BS. Your numbers for the static rope and amsteel were BS I assume?

This may be a dumb question, but could you make your perimeter with wire rope?
