Teach Your Kid To Ride A Bike - How To Ride A Balance Bike

A balance bike is a great way to teach your child to ride a bike.

A balance bike is the best starting point when your child is learning to ride a bike. Daniel Lloyd taught his son Jude how to ride a balance bike. It's in the name: a balance bike makes a great starting point as it teaches your kid how to balance on a bike. Once your child can use a balance bike, the transition to an actual bike will be much simpler as the only skill that they'll need to acquire is pedalling.

Have you got any tips for teaching your child to ride? Comment and let us know!

This video still tracks! Thanks Dan from 10 years ago 🎉 my 6 year old son had a scooter and didn't want to ride his bike. After getting him a new bike for Christmas and spending hours trying to get him to ride we watched your video. After pulling the pedals and cranks off an old bike we made him an over sized balance bike. After a couple of days of figuring out the balance we reintroduce the pedal bike and he got it! Wow! From not being able to Thursday to flying down the road Sunday. THANK YOU!

notice how happy he looks when he's riding, this is great stuff.
I learnt to ride a bike going down the side of my house on the grass over and over and over when i was about 8 or 9
worst thing a parent can do though, is try to limit your riding time
my mum did this to me, now I haven't spoken to her in years.
i knows its a bit off subject, but i'd like to see some tips for teenagers/high school kids who are starting to realise they got a bit of talent/enjoyment out of riding.
It's the one things they don't teach us in schools at least in Australia at least.

Still remember my dad teaching me how to ride a bike, and he just flat out refused to have training wheels on it, instead supporting my shoulders, and then eventually just taking his hands off. Got a couple bloody knees that way, but it did work quite well...

Wonderful video! The gentleman has a superb delivery and an absolutely delightful way of explaining. Incidentally, the information is accurate, valid, practical and useful. Thanks, mate.

When I was 9 there were no strider bikes like this. I used to ride my neighbor's bicycle I fell many time but I never stopped trying and my hard work pays off. Here I'm a rider now!!

Fantastic demo! Thank you! My son always wants to go for a ride on "Daddy's bike" in his child seat which I have on the rear rack of my old fart Roam 2 made by Giant. No slap meant toward the bike. It's a fantastic hybrid that suits my needs for carrying a baby on the back rack in his seat. These tips have helped him ride solo as he still is apprehensive to crank his tricycle pedals. A cool thing about cycling is that is contagious, and that your little ones catch the fever. I looked at some previous comments on kid's bikes. I didn't have a balance bike when I was a tike but I found myself on a sponsored BMX bike by Mongoose when I was 11. Riding a bike is pure fun. I think that it's good to let your kids in on it fast.

In my experience, you should skip the training wheels if the kid is comfortable on the balance bike. The training wheels do not allow leaning into a turn. Just make sure the kid can place the feet on the ground when sitting on the saddle.

I was about 8 when I learned. There was this rusty iron horse bike in my house that was about 4 inches shorter than me a full sized bike. And to get on I would get a chair and hop on it, to get off I crash into a wall. After I learned to ride it I slowly started to work my way I get off of the bike. 10 years later I'm still riding that Same bike today:) but I cleaned it up so no more rust ;D
