Having stuff lying around is a great point. I have a My first PUKY in the house and some plastic balance bikes in the garden. My daughters were never really interested but my son just picks them up and has a ride around. Scooters (the two wheeled ones) are another great way for kids to learn balance and improve core strength. Our daughters physio recommend them to us for kids struggling to ride without stabilisers.

Great video! Another thing to keep in mind when choosing a bike for a kid is the weight. Kids bikes are often very heavy and a bad, often not working, suspension fork could make it even heavier. And lever brakes make pedaling easier as the back strokes won't stop the bike. When a bike and the brakes are high quality, hand brakes even work better with the kids compared to the pedal brakes.

Really good insights here, I have a 20 month old sister and we just keep her balance bike in the living room, always ready for her to hop into. We have a Yepp Mini seat but we don't use it as much, maybe in couple of months move her to a shotgun seat and we can ride with her on the trails.

Good info on choosing bikes as well.

Don't make the mistake of skipping sizes.
My kid went from loving his balance bike to a size 16" and not wanting to ride, for nearly a year. I then took the pedals off and he used it as a balance bike, for a few weeks. Put the pedals back on, then pushed him down a gentle incline and he hasn't stopped since.

Gets even more interesting when your tot transitions to a pedal bike at 2. Its fun though. Hoping to get my little guy on a kids trail this week

Lol struggling to get the little guy to pedal cause he loves his balance bike. Struggling to get my daughter to ditch training wheels because she didn’t start out on the balance bike. Each has its pros and cons for sure.

Started both my kids on a balance bike. Neither had stablelizers when they went up to a peddle bike.

What kind of bike seat and pegs do you have to take your kids?

Do you have to adjust your fork pressure when having kid in that upfront seat - or its ok to leave it as it is for some mellow trail or tarmac. It wont do any harm to fork to add like 20kg while having same pressure as before?
