At an altitude of nearly 4,000 meters, Sking is one of the most isolated villages in the Himalayan region of Zanskar. In just three months, from August to October, the Zanskaris have to harvest and store all their food for the coming year. All the women-young and old alike-work nonstop, from dawn to dusk, and worry about the arrival of winter.

Filmed from the point of view of a subjective camera by a young female ethnologist, "Himalaya, Land of Women" offers a sensitive and poetic immersion in the life of four generations of women during harvesting season. We share their rare intimacy and gradually grow attached to them.

Absolutely gorgeous documentary. Thankyou . My 89 year old infirm Bengali mother adores this and watches it over and over again. She has just lost her 96 year old husband ( my father ) and this video gives her so much peace.

"We live to die, meet people to leave them and own things to loose them" - so beautifully said. True of our existence.

This is wonderful. The fact she learnt the native language is amazing. So many people make documentaries without even being able to have a conversation with the very people their discussing.

To everyone slamming her for supposedly not helping with the work:
She lived with them for _years._ She knew their language. The people loved her! Of course she must have helped a lot. But she took some hours to focus on filming, so you could watch and criticize.
(I also live in Asia. My wife and I do everything we can to help the people here. But still some people criticize.)

Well, I'm 82 years of age and this is the best documentary I've ever watched, absolutely brilliant.

"We work hard. We work and then, we die." Spoken with a broad smile, a whistle, a grunt as she lifts a burden that would stagger most Westerners. These people live in what would appear to be squalid poverty but seem richer by far than most people pursuing wealth in urban drudgery, alone in their crowds. I very much enjoyed this film.

"Summer in the mountains, life is good!
There is milk, yogurt, butter and cheese!
Life is good! "
Learning what is the true meaning of thankfulness 🙌

I would really like to appreciate the work that this woman had put into this video, I belong to this Himalayan region of Zanskar and never felt the beauty of my place until I saw this video, now I'm realizing how unique and beautiful my place is, I'm happy to realize that this stillness and its cut off from the outer world makes it more ravishing and charming. Thank you so much for this video and I would really like to appreciate the fact that she spoke the local language soo well❤

Wonderful. The scenes of the little girl trying to pick up a heavy load onto her back and finally succeeding really touched me. It symbolized their hard life and the courageous way that they lived it.

I look at what we have here in the U.S. and am embarrassed by what we as a nation feel that we deserve and need. These people are beautiful and put us all to shame. Beautiful documentary. Thank you.

This documentary makes us realize to witness how intrigued & undiscovered our planet is, depending on the different regions of the world. The fact that we can appreciate this sort of documentary on Youtube by SLICE is utterly priceless. Thank you. (11/07/21)

I felt both awed and sad during different points in this beautiful video. The "sister" who is only 13, yet works so hard....knowing there is the potential for another kind of life out there. I hope she experiences the plane ride at some point in her life. The great grandmother, blind and still working the fields at 80 years old. I was sad when she died, she is such an inspiration. They all are such happy people. We could take a lesson from them in that you don't need much to make you smile.

I admire their values, thoughts, hard work and way of life. I come from small tribe in India and studying abroad in Germany. I guess, we should change the meaning of words "progressive society or richness". I spend very little time in my own village and after watching this documentary, everything flashes back instantly. I also admire you, for blending with them and tried your best to understand them. Thank you for this eye opening documentary. More power and love to you!

I can't explain it but I fell in love with the people in this village. Life has dealt them a tough hand and they are making the best of it with warmth, charm and humor. People like this are not what's wrong with the world.
