Just a reminder: Mafia is from Sicily, Camorra is from Campania, Ndrangheta is from Calabria - all southern regions. Unfortunately they also moved their business in some northern cities (Milan, Turin), although they do not really do rackets (i.e. protection money) there but mostly they control the drugs market and they infiltrate business like construction and garbage treatment.

I had a friend who had a run in with the yakuza when he was visiting japan. His friend and himself went to a yakuza bar and didnt know it was marked as one. I guess they have logos outside of shops to show its yakuza own and they didnt know. These two guys went up to my friends in the bar and complimented their outfits cuz my friends are into street fashion. The yakuza told them “in tradition its out of respect to buy the locals drinks.” So they did out of respect, but the yakuza men kept buying expensive drinks and putting it on my friends tab. Once they got the bill they confronted the two guys about why they kept doing that and thats when shit hit the fan for them. They got surrounded and the yakuza took knifes out and brought them up into a room upstairs of the bar and robbed them, then let them go. My friend said he was lucky he didnt die and left his credit card at the hostel or he’d have been completely fucked. Dont mess with the yakuza.
