Robert was basically the only one on the Dream Team who actually believed in OJ's innocence. Shapiro & Bailey said they did, but their actions made it clear that they thought he did it; they just wanted to win. Derschowitz went on TV proclaiming OJ's guilt, right up until he was hired to defend him and Cochran was using this case to shine a light on the corrupt/racist culture of the LAPD, to which OJ's guilt or innocence was kind of irrelevant to him.

Robert meanwhile reactivated his legal license (which he'd allowed to lapse before the trial because he wasn't practicing) specifically to defend his friend, only to first see a much darker side of OJ and then slowly becoming convinced that OJ did it. When he walked away, OJ lost a friend and gained anothet giant clue, that his troubles were only just beginning.

This whole party is a giant demonstration of what a Pryhic Victory that Not Guilty verdict was for OJ. He avoided jail, but the bill for lawyers will almost bankrupt him (and the civil suit from the Goldman's will finish the job), he's a pariah to his friends and neighbours and all of his previous achievements as an athlete, actor, commentator, all are buried under his new reputation: the guy who got away with murder thanks to the race card and good lawyers.
