Umm, we ditched the gold standard in 1933. The gilded age, one of the most unequal periods of American existence was under the gold standard. A shift out is one factor in the uplift from the great depression. Deregulated capitalism is to blame for financial inequality. The gold standard helped the wealthy, which is why several wealthy businessmen tried to facilitate a fascist coup to bring the gold standard back (the "Wall Street Putsch.")
