Chris’s Guinness Brown Bread ☘️

Have a Happy St Patrick’s Day Folks!

Recipe

300g - 2 1/2 cups Whole-wheat flour
100g - 3/4 cup Plain Flour
100g - 1 1/4 cup of Oats
1 1/2 tsp of Baking Soda
1/2 tsp of Baking Powder
1 tsp of Salt
2 tbsp of melted butter
1 tbsp of Dark Malt Extract or use about 2 tbsp of treacle if you prefer that (both optional)
200ml | 3/4 cup of Guinness
250ml | 1 cup of Buttermilk

You can add 2 tsp of brown sugar if you want to add some sweetness.

You can also use natural or Greek yoghurt as a substitute for buttermilk. Just thin it out a little with a drop of water. Alternatively you can add 2 tbsps of vinegar or lemon juice to 250ml of regular milk. Stir and let it stand for about 10 minutes before adding it.

Baked in a 2Ib loaf tin. Bake at 180C or 355F for about 55-60 minutes

The bread should make a hollow sound at the bottom when you tap it. You can also use a thermometer to check the internal temperature. Around 94C would be ideal

Give it a go!

All the best

oh, sure Chris, you are going to keep the rest of that Guinness for the cupcakes. Your nana and my husband both left us on St. Paddy's day. I find it difficult to celebrate that day since, but really appreciate and enjoy your Youtube channel. I might be baking this bread soon...in their memory. Thx.

Thanks, Chris, I'll be baking this today! I might mention that my mother always told us kids that the cut on the top of the bread dough was to let the devil out. Not that I would insinuate that a devil, in any form, lurks in that bread. Nope. Not sayin' nuthin'. Hoping you and yours are well, and happy.

Thank you for this wonderful recipe! I found the first video last year and wanted to rewatch it - I'm happy to find an update and some baking tips. Seeing how easy this is to make, I really have no excuses to not bake bread weekly!
Condolences on your loss - March is a difficult time for me as well. My mom passed on March 2, 2020 and we laid her to rest on March 17. Sharing food feels different when family and friends are missed, but we can feel their presence with the memories dishes can evoke.

Wow Chris your brown bread looks absolutely delicious and the tin gives it a really neat shape. 👌Question: why did u leave it to cool upside down? Any particular reason? Happy St Patrick’s Day to you and your family, I’m actually making your lemon curd cheesecake for our party this year 🇮🇪☘️😋
