How to Tie a Boat to a Cleat

Tying a boat to a dock is easy to do by using a cleat to secure your docking lines. Follow along to see how to tie a cleat using a cleat hitch knot technique.

1. Wrap your line around the base of the cleat twice.
2. Then, make a figure "8" pattern to wrap your line around the horns of the cleat. Repeat this step two to four times.
3. Finally, twist the line into a loop and hook it onto one horn of the cleat. Pull tight to secure.
