In this short allegory, we follow a population of turtle species that exists trapped at the bottom of a pit. As time passes, they conceive of a means of escaping the pit, but it comes at a high, paradoxical price.

I didn’t ask to be born and now I have to live until I die

I think about this concept literally every single day of my life, the fact that I did not ask to be born and that I was born to two people who were definitely not meant to be parents. And now, because of their recklessness and poor decision making I must continue to live my meaningless life. This doesn’t sit well with me. Now, I can either suffer through life until I’m elderly and pass away or off myself which I also don’t feel like doing. I just feel very tired and that everything I am doing is pointless and unimportant and I wish I had just never been born because my birth was equally as This ife is, meaningless.

"They were born to solve their parents's problems"... This, this.. THIS is the harsh truth...

It makes more sense to stack all of the old turtles and let the young ones escape. Once all the young ones are gone the old ones can die in the pit. Their sacrifice in turn would end the endless cycle of suffering.

man this IS THE PERFECT analogy that explains how I feel about my parents working hard their entire lives just so they could be financialy stable at the end of it " leaving the pit " and it's why I don't wanna reproduce and bring kids to this existence just for them to go through this cycle

This is a great story because it parallels in several ways to our own lives. For example, we are told from a young age that you need to go to school, get good grades, go to college, get a good job, make money, etc., but we never stop to think about "why?". In the story, the turtles continue on their routine, with the eldest teaching the youngest how to think and what to do, but only one questioned the system. Overall, I really like the message of the story, as it's great food for thought.

A married man once asked me if it was selfish to stay single and childless, which I was. I replied by asking him if it was selfish to have children. He was surprised and asked how so. I said to him, "I WANT to have children" is about what you want. I wasn't trying to be rude, or clever, just wanted to throw a different perspective on what most people accept as normal behaviour....

That´s why I love Buddhism. Every Buddhist´s ultimate goal is to escape the cycle of re-birth. Existence is the biggest punishment possible.

Funny thing, I say that all the time whenever someone mentions being depressed or I’m depressed.
“None of us, not a single person who ever lived ever chose to be here. That choice was made for us, we didn’t volunteer and say “hey I’d like to exist.”
It’s a little bit of comfort in knowing that we all share being existentially screwed.
But I also hate it when people give me a hard time FOR existing.

At some point everything ends, even if you were born gifted. Eventually you reach a point where your quality of life will continue to go down. Then it'll feel like being stuck in purgatory, waiting until you die. Really the lucky ones are those who die young and without knowing it

This explained exactly how the human race works. We are born without a choice, have to endure everything that is thrown at us, some of us are lucky enough to find the path early on, while the rest wait, bring more people into the world (be it with or without intention) and leave them to suffer like we did.
I too, started thinking this way around the onset of the pandemic and absolutely do not see the point in bringing more humans on the planet anymore. We only make matters worse (on an overall basis).
