Testing The Handheld Welder

I have seen these little welders on the tictok and thought that seems like a great idea over the typical SMAW stick welder setup and had to try it. I reached out to TRQWH and they sent me out this unit for testing and evaluation. Overall, I was impressed with the quality of this tool and I am amazed at how small and compact this machine is. It feels no different than using a Ryobi style battery powered drill.

Even better was how well this machine performed. Running off 110V only this welded some 3/16 plate with no problems. The small packaging makes this the perfect tool to weld anything anywhere unlike my bigger machines where everything must be done in the shop.

Useful and helpful, thanks, thinking about bying one of these to use for wasting time during my declining years now that I've just retired. Compliments on the video quality, too -- it was so good I actually thought I smelled the hot metal

How is that bulky thing easier to manipulate than a standard stinger? I thought the thing was cordless except for the ground

Some people complain about the power cord being too short and tripping the breakers, can an extension cord be use? I have asked this question several times and no one has responded!

I tried 20 amps with the supplied rods, a lot of sticking, and not really producing a good puddle. 30-40 amps probably needed with a 1/16 60312 rod....16 ga. sheet metal hoping it doesn't burn through.

So just plug it in and trun in on then put a wire in? Will it work without that grounding clamp?

When you use this, do you drag the rod or just lay it in place as it works?

How well did the plastic construction do over time being exposed to extreme heat like that? Seems like it would be a good idea for a welding tool to be made of something less susceptible to heat damage without being made in a way that would allow the electricity to flow through the operator.

this is ok for the typical household breakers (15/20 amp)?

Something the ads don't tell us. Household power in Australia is rated at 10 amps. These handheld welders require input of 32 amps. Using one through standard household power is not recommended and will probably overload/trip your circuit board.

What's the duty cycle? I can't imagine a 110 stick welder could run for long without overheating.
