The book I was reading said about 80% of websites out there do not follow the standards, I even checked out a few that I regularly visit. I don't think many people in the real world care about standards, although if you are studying at university/college they might ask you to validate your web page and you could get marked down if it is not to standard.

I have seen 10 tutorial yet so far... 
The tutorials are well made and to the point..

.... my opinion to you is to use dual window..that may appear a bit faster to deliver your knowledge to us.

Question about this validation. Do I also need to validate via the Direct Input tab, or just the URI is sufficient?

Thanks for this. I'm finding in checking errors at W3C that the line numbers they refer to don't seem to correspond to known text editors line numbers, e.g. textpad. Any thoughts?

The author of the book that I'm reading has a PhD in web development or computer science (whatever it is) and for HTML 5 you only need charset utf=8

what HTML standards do these rules achieve? W3C may be out to set a standard but their documents are convoluted and the reason why no one really aims for any standards. Itried to look up what standard this relates to on their website and its like walking aimlessly through a dense forest of non sense. Cant they just say. Coding standard: a website must use consistent definition types etc? I dont see what standard you are referring to with these rules. What did the book eveentually say these ules are related to?
