Just purchased a Mint Sony A6000 about a month ago for $275, then bought a Sigma Prime 30mm for $300, added a hotshoe cover, another memory card, as well as 3 more batteries and a charger... for about $650 i ended up with a Top Notch " BEGINNER " setup. I Love this Camera, and i love the work it puts in. Once i get my time in, ill spend more money on Newer and more Feature Rich of a Camera, but for Now... Best Decision Ever.

Great review. I have had the A6000 for at least 5 or 6 years, love adapting vintage and other branded lenses to this body. I also picked up a used NEX 3N and an A5100. They are all fun to use and extremely good quality imagery.

I already have the A6000, but I can’t deny Nex 6 is also a very good camera for the price, specially because of the build quality and EVF resolution. If I have to choose I would probably still go for the A6000 mostly because of the faster autofocus and 24 megapixel sensor. Those features are deal breakers for me in street photography. I used to crop a lot and faster autofocus helps a lot.

Have had the a6000 for more than 5 years now. I don't make videos and only shoot photos, but I'm still impressed with the results after all that time. Good dynamic range, usable files even at ISO 6400 if you use a proper RAW based noise reduction software, and yes, the autofocus really is performing well.
I think the main reason why it's branded "AVCHD" on the rear is because it only had this codec when it has been released. They added the 50 mpbs XAVC-S option later with a firmware update.

The 6100 is only a hair more on the used market and it’s in a whole new league with autofocus and colors. I honestly grab it more than my a7iv for a camera to have in my bag and it has much more in common with the a7iv than the a6000. Eye tracking autofocus is incredible on the 6100. Surprised you didn’t mention it. It does 4k and with all the massive improvements it’s only 100$ more used around 500$ …. I say all this as someone who owned the 6000 for years. And my gf owns a nex 5T. I’m very familiar with these cameras. Get the 6100.

Best Buy recently had an open box for $155 that I purchased and hopefully will make it over to pick it up today.

I was stuck between the ZVE10 and something with a viewfinder since I do occasionally take photos as well. At $155 with the kit lens, it seemed like a no brainer and I can live without 4k.

A6000 is my go to night time street camera, I love it with a 50mm f1.8 around the streets of Liverpool, tried various options in the past but can't see me replacing it anytime soon, it just goes about it's business perfectly for me

Thanks Kraig. Your videos convinced me to buy a second hand NEX-5R, and I love it. It so happens I was wondering if I should buy an A6000 and after watching this, I don't think I will, because I don't shoot videos.

Just bought a used Sony A6000 with 3 lenses, large Rockwell bag, 3 SD cards, 2 extra batteries all cords, camera strap and tripod at Goodwill for $6.98 .. Took it home charged it and it works great.. One of the lenses is a 500mm..

The reason the 6000 only says "AVCHD" is because XAVC-S was added long after launch. Originally only supported AVCHD.

I'm in the market for a compact mirrorless camera for street photography and some portraits. I've allocated about 300 of my photography budget to the camera. I've been trying to decide if I should go for the a6000, or just grab the nex-6 and save money I can use to get a nicer lens. Is the autofocus that much better to the point where it's worth the extra chunk of money or is it a waste? I wouldn't crop much at all so the sensor resolution of the nex-6 is perfectly fine for me. I just can't seem to come to a decision about whether the extra money is worth the few small improvements of the a6000.

Great video. The a6000 didn’t have XAVC S when it was released. It came later in a firmware update. Hence the AVCHD branding.

i only use it for photo's with a manual 35mm, good to know all the information and that the NEX6 is newer than the 7. I bought mine a few weeks ago for 325eu. (with kitlens). It feels good in the hand and I like the vivid colourmode. I only shoot JPEG. I play with the modes in the camera and i almost do not edit. (a challenge) . thx for the video

been eyeing the a6000 for a while now. came from nex 5 to nex 5T to olympus em10ii and now I want to go back to sony.

but as someone who doesn't make money off of photography and lives in a third world country. $300 for a camera body is something I still need to plan ahead and budget my expenses accordingly. so its gonna take me some time lol

Hey! I had the a6000 for a few minutes and sold it immediateley and kept my Nex-5!! But now I ordered the Nex-6 because of all the Pros. BUT I have a question: Did you remove the eye cup? MyNex-6 comes with a super bigeye cup and it lookshorrible. Thanks!
