I believe the reason they're told to act rude is to hurt the customer's ego and channel them into buying it so that they can look down on that employee, it's a clever move and plays cunningly with the little ego human's put before logic.

No... If I take the time out of my day to walk into a store it's because I intend to buy. If a store acts like a snob to me or anyone else in the store, I walk out. I value decency and respect.

Geez, the last woman was adamant on his purchase.
“You don’t have a partner, but buy me a ring, and you might find one to give it to.”

The best observation I've heard was, "the most expensive is not always the best, but the cheapest is always the worst."

While I was in college I worked in a high end grocery store. I worked in the meat and fish counter. We did well against local competition but we really started to pull away when we increased the “look” of our meat and seafood counter and raised our prices. The higher we raised the prices in the most well off part of town the more product we sold. It was like a Jedi mind trick. Our margins were absolutely ridiculous. When we put items on sale they NEVER sold. People would ask “What’s wrong with the fish? Is it old?” After this we raised prices even more and never put anything on sale. After a few years the owners sold the store to Whole Foods for millions of dollars. Rich people think differently. Honestly when it comes to buying products rich people are friggin stupid!

With the car example, Porsche employees are trained to be nice and let anyone in the cars and see them. I mean even one of their commercials is an 11 year old asking to sit in one and getting a business card.

I’m so glad you put into the video the part about diamonds and deBeers monopolizing the diamond business! It’s true. Heck, there are kimberlite pipes all over the world, including several spots in the U.S., where I live, and Canada. Diamonds are NOT rare. I don’t care for them. My engagement ring holds 5 gorgeous rubies, channel-set. People, DON’T buy diamonds as an investment! They lose value immediately, like most cars.

Respect to that woman at the end, chasing the bag

That ego trick only worked in the past. Nowadays when I walk into a D&G or Gucci store, they treat me with a solid amount of respect. Because first of all, I don’t bullshit. I walk straight to the item I’m looking for, ask them for the right size. Buy it, then I’m on my way out. The reason for them to be rude is when they can see customers who are trying to waste their time.

Diamonds are some of the LEAST RARE gemstones on earth. Debeers has a monopoly on diamond mines and only sells 2% of what they mine every year to keep prices artificially high

Rude sales people are generally operating from a stereotype and sometimes false image of wealth and have a bias toward people they think can afford to buy. However, with that attitude, they may miss out on wealthy people that don't walk around announcing it through their image. Some of the most wealthy I've run across in my work are down to earth and can afford more than those who flaunt what they have.

In Selfridges we were trained to be as nice and professional as possible, we sold Tumi which are one of the more high end ex luggage companies, I sold more often than my colleagues who did think themselves above others because I was friendly & smiley & the footballers seemed to prefer the smiley sweet girl over the stuck up woman!

The rude act is completely different if you actually act like you have money to spend. I went into a Burberry shop once wearing just some normal clothes and was treated like shit, but I’ve walked into the same shop before wearing some ‘expensive clothes’ and tried on a scarf pretending £375 was a good price for a scarf and I had my own personal saleswoman following me around trying to get me to buy things treating me like a king
