Chaos Space Marines are secretly a great choice for new painters. In this video, I show off how good the simplest of paintjobs can look on these models. Then, I kick it up a notch and go full tryhard!

The Lord Discordant (tryhard) model I painted is part of a charity raffle! Many great causes and many great models :-)

HUGE Thanks to MWG Dave and the whole miniwargaming team for contributing to this video. That bunker is so dang cool.

More Goobertown!

YES!!!! Always a pleasure Brent. Just to add a slight clarification, I donated my Khârn model to this year’s NOVA raffle which was beautifully painted by Jordan Powell (AspiringChampionPainting). This Khârn has brought me many fun times on the tabletop and will now be gifted and welcomed to a new home of the lucky winner.

I'm hearing very different opinions about Nurgle though:
- It's good for beginners because Nurgle is messy by default
- It's terrible for beginners due to the tons of details

Okay, but which of these Marines makes the best fishing lure?

As an day 1 beginner i really thank you for that, not impossible technics or extra tools just simple things that just needs practice. I appreciate that.

"We're starting with black primer."

It's a trick!

No wash, Brent you are living on the edge with this one!! Two thin coats, that's what all new painters need to hear.

I believe Brent playing evil Brent while being nice dude Brent is just a cover for the _real_ evil Brent. The special kind of evil that would show up at your house while you're out of town, mow and edge your lawn, then not let you pay him back in any way. Totally evil.

This makes me grateful I got into mini painting and Warhammer via that First Strike starter kit that was half Marines and half Death Guard. The Poxwalkers were ideal to get a handle putting brush to plastic and the Death Guard gave me a chance to paint something more elaborate. When I won it in an MTG tournament I lucked into a great start to a new hobby.

If you're not confident with testing out paint consistency on your expensive models, here's a hot tip!
Prime up a part of the sprue, and test your paints on that! It's a great way to get a feel for your paint without putting it on something you are afraid of ruining.
And you can also use it to try out scary new techniques such as edge highlighting and wet blending!

So yesterday I finally conquered my fear of jumping in and painting minis again. I had tried several times over the past few years, but never managed to finish one. Yesterday I decided to try a Rubric Marine that I had on hand, thinking that it was probably not the most appropriate mini to start painting again. Today I stumbled upon this video. Life is good !

You know what I've been painting for years and I never get tired of studying the basics, especially here 😊👍

I like seeing videos on Chaos Space Marines, the models still have a bit of that old school charm, and are kind of underrated content wise! Very nice!

I'm painting Ultramarines as my first army, but I also painted the Indomitus Necrons and found them surprisingly easy to paint. Prime black, dry brush silver, paint eyes and glowing weapon bits neon green, cover in agrax earthshade and you're done.

Gotta say, I love how increasingly almost every upload to Warhammer YouTubers channels is a crossover episode.

I’ve always enjoyed painting Chaos Marines especially Death Guard they have such good details and have their own individual feel to them

This is such a cute and wholesome video, giving some newbies a confidenve boost. When I started I was scared to mess things up, but once I actually did put some paint on my miniatures, even the ones that weren't even close to finish just looked that much better and more interesting on the battlefield, from 2 feet away, then plain, grey or primed ones. You basically can NEVER mess up, if you just apply base coats or four color easy details and can always come back, if you feel the need to, but to get stuff battlefield ready, you really don't need any fancy skills, just the conviction to do it.

Just rewatched this video. This is a perfect video to send to a beginner mini painter. Great video. I totally agree that for a beginner, learning to thin your paint to the right consistency, learning to apply two or three thin coats and learning to be patient and let the paint fully dry before applying a second coat are all useful skills / techniques for a beginner to pick up. The brush control you develop by painting carefully is also very important. Thanks!

I'm now feeling less intimidated about getting started with Slaves to Darkness. I'm just waiting on some texture paint to show up before I get started, but I'm super excited to finally dive into the hobby.

This is a very important video for me. It built my confidence in retrying warhammer after a 4ish year pause and decided my first army for me. I played chaos space marines all throughout 9th edition because of you, Brent. And I appreciate it.
