They definitely foresaw a EU lawsuit so they called it quits because the only reason why they did the subscription was to make even more money off the consumer

So the E series are now the E-waste series.

We started recommending Epson and Brother printers to our clients when HP+ subscriptions were required.

As an IT tech (Tier 1) the absolute worst, hair pulling, blood pressure skyrocketing calls are for HP printers, what a fall from grace and absolute joke of a company.

Remember: "HP" can stand for "Horrible Printers".

I was in an IT class with a Professor who worked on HP's Printer Line for a while and he asked us to write a paper on a company of our choice with a history of consumer malpractices. I wrote about the HP Instant Ink subscription in the most critical way possible. Let's say I didn't get a great grade in that class but god was it worth it.

I got a Canon Ink Jet printer. You can use ink cartriges that are refillable. Also, Ive never once used or seen used a warranty for a printer.

I own an HP printer from the before times, thing is built like a tank, weighs about as much, and the toner cartridges are so ubiquitous I could probably source them from the homeless guy around the corner. Well done, HP.

30 years ago, I used to say there only 2 types of printers, HP and everything else. These days I say anything but HP.

The whole xbox thing wasnt that big of an issue to me until i had no internet for a few days and couldn't watch movies cause the dvd player needed an update. i was able to go pull out an old dvd vhs player combo and watch my movies fine, but still. Needing to have a device always connected to the internet sucks.

Had a canon printer growing up, and that thing lasted forever with no problem. Haven't printed anything in the last 8 years but I've always favored canon in both printers and cameras

I've been using an Epson Ecotank printer since early last year and haven't needed to think about adding new ink yet, let alone keeping it connected to the internet.

It sounds like it should be called the E-waste series.

Brother or Epson. All the rest stays out. And HP in particular. HP consumes a lot more ink, their nozzles always needs cleaning (explains the more ink-usage) and their software is a mess. And Bob Marley is in there, I think. It's always jamming.

I bound me and every decendent of mine by sacred oath to never posess another hp printer!

Who even owns a HP printer anymore, or at least one that is less than 5 years old? No company I've ever worked for would allow a printer to be connected to the internet, in most cases even have internet access on the internal network in the first place.

When I learned HP was locking you into using only their cartridges, I discovered printers with tanks. I AM SO GLAD I BOUGHT MY TANK PRINTER! MUCH MONEY SAVED! I did not know about the online only part or the subscription bullshit. Whew!

I remember the day when my hp scan app suddenly went missing, turns out I had to do it from HP's "smart" app from that day forward which requires you to be logged in just to do scanning and they're slow as hell. Fortunately my hp printer is old enough to still can scan using the built in windows scanner app instead.

Love how all these companies assume everyone has the internet yet it's not considered a public utility...

The first company that comes out with a decent printer that doesn’t purposely waste ink of other colors is going to dominate the market
