You can use XMedia Recode to do a LOSSLESS conversion also (from MKV to MP4)!

Tried VLC (only gave audio), tried online converters (didn't work), tried downloading programs (all either had watermarks, limitations or didn't work), tried this and it's perfect, thank you

Good video.
Two important things:
1) Vegas has added support for the MKV container during the summer of 2019 (while Adobe for some obscure reason they don't want to explain removed their MKV support from Premiere in May)
2) Pay attention to the codec information in the white list view on the Main tab at 0:28. The video (and audio) codecs need to be supported by your editing software. If it isn't supported (for example if the video type is H.265 HEVC or VP9 and not H.264 as in this example), then you have to use the Convert option instead of the Copy option on the Video and Audio tabs. Of course, if one of the codecs is supported, you only need to convert the type that isn't supported.

This is what you should *always* try first, when you are forced to use another container format than MKV. Remember that only a few video editing tools offers this option (Handbrake doesn't). In most cases, you can simply copy the video stream like it's shown here. Sometimes you will need to convert the audio, because MP4 can't handle high quality audio formats like DTS or AC3 properly.

Regarding conversion (the last part of the video): Instead of setting an Average bitrate (15000 kbps sound like a lot, unless it's Blu-ray video in full HD), you could also try using the Constant quality setting. Try with the default setting 20 on a small part of the video first. If it's too bad, lower the setting to 18. You can also set it to a higher value like 24, if size matters more than quality.

And finally the war between me and mkv files are over. Even though some converted files are not compatible in Premier Pro, still this software is by far the best. Thanks!

Bro, thanks a million for this tutorial! I'm pretty skeptic about tutorials which feature obscure programs I've never used before, and I honestly expected viruses or options being locked behind a paywall, but... no, this program is actually pretty damn good. Helped me convert flv. files from OBS to mp4 for sony vegas editing with no problem at all.

How to rotate video first for 7 degrees and then crop black triangles? Xmedia use Crop filter first, before rotate filter. Xmedia can't change filter place in list.

Thanks - been watching your vids - just wondering - is there no mkv codec for Sony Vegas that you know of?

With this program its actually so much easier for me, and I have sound compared to VLC where I don't. thank you so so much :D

Thanks a lot for this video, VLC would keep giving me stuttering video when I converted using the copy method. And when I used H264 + MP3 (MP4), Vegas didn't recognise the video. This method worked best, and didn't significantly increase the size of the video file either.

Edit: Also, no watermark so far, and no time limit.
