Sharing with you some of the most popular but worst skincare trends 2022 and the trends which could be damaging your skin and need to fail.

Hey guys and welcome to Mad About Skin where in this video I wanted to share with you 5 tragic skincare trends which need to die and which I hope to see the back of in 2022. The trends might be popular online but they could be damaging your kin and your enjoyment of your skincare routine.

When it comes to skin care trends, I think we have see it all before as they tend to come and go. However there are some 2022 skincare trends which need to permanently fail and never be seen again, these are the trends which could be damaging your skin or ruining your enjoyment of your skincare routine.

Micellar Water Cleansing Wipes - These wipes bring with them all the bad things about old style cleansing wipes and fewer of the benefits of just reaching for a micellar water. Swap these for a good old fashioned micellar water and some reusable cotton rounds and you will be doing the skin and the planet a favour for sure.

Nicainamide in Every Skincare Product - this is one of the biggest issues with the new skincare launches of 2022, they have all been packed full of niacinamide and often in higher concentrations then the skin can handle. Niacinamide is wonderful in small quantities but with it being in everything we risk over using this ingredient.

Sunscreen Shaming - the practice of calling people out for not doing it right when it comes to sunscreen. This unsoiled advice when it comes to sunscreen is doing nothing but making the receiver feel bad and without understanding their individual circumstances. Lets just celebrate that people are using sunscreen and let them do what works for them.

Bashing hand Creams - Ok hand creams are not going to be for everyone but some of us enjoy then and the best hand creams often offer additional benefit so let stop the judgement and let people enjoy what they enjoy.

Greenwashing - something which brands do to appear more green than they actually are. keep an eye out for actually commitments from brands rather than just loose statements when it comes to their green credentials.

I would love to know any trends you would like to add to this list so please let me know in the comments section below.

Thank you for talking about the sunscreen shaming. I think sometimes people don't realise what a privileg it is to have the time and the money to apply a good sunscreen every two hours.

I‘d add the overuse ofhyaluronic acid to the list. At least where I live it’s still the epicentre of skincare ingredients, you’d think there’s nothing else… 🙄🙄
Much love and happy weekend ❤️❤️❤️

Amen for sunscreens! It has become overwhelming up to a point that you tube dermatologists make people mentally obsessed and stressed if they don't religiously apply very expensive spf recommendations every 2 hours. It came down to a point: give away all of your monthly income for spf. Of course I'm using it. But I do trust my longtime dermatologist (never failed and gave me bad recommendation in 15 years). Everything in moderation. Apply it. But there also other ways to take care of your skin in terms of UVB and UVA rays. Finally, somebody addressing this issue! Thank you! 💚🌺

1. The spf police want to take a day off once in a while.
2. Do what works for YOU.
3. If a once a day application makes you happy then do it.
4. It's your hard earned money, making you the boss of your skincare.
5. Be sun safe ♡

I wish more brands came out with refillable packaging or bigger sized product options. A great example is the Beauty of Joseon serums, I love them but they’re so darn small. I feel bad about all the waste 😭 give me glass bottles for everything too! 🤣

A sunscreen that I only have to apply once. SOLD!!! If the package says I don’t have to apply every two hours…that’s the one for me!

Totally agree - particularly with your take on suncream. I wear p20 sunscreen because it suits my life, suits my skin, I wear it consistently and it works for ME x

I’d like to see shaming other people’s skincare routines go away. Use 3 steps, use 12. Let people do what works for them.

I’m not a sheet mask person but I know people love them. I find it hard to believe there’s no way to make a product with something that’s biodegradable. Something better than plastic. One would think, anyway.

Totally agree about niacinamide. I’ve tried limit how much I use bc I did discover that my skin hated TO niacinamide serum. I don’t know if it was the formula or the concentration but I try to keep less than 10% in any routine. I have a few products that have anywhere between 2-5% and haven’t had any issues, so far.

I know I’m in the minority but I totally do not like skincare in glass packaging. Glass in the bathroom is not a good combo (for me, anyway). I just look for packaging that’s recyclable.

And, please, PLEASE, let 2022 be the year that people shut up about “clean beauty” 🙄

The craze for sheet masks is the one I hate, they make me feel like I’m being suffocated! Also, bad for the environment 😀❤️

As a Midwife, I have to wash my hand LOTS. Without handcream my hands would be so shrivelled!

Omg the wipes and sheet masks should be banned. I've seen many city pipes that need to be unclogged regularly. I understand the emergency use of wipes but not recreational use 🤷

Just as well we have you to guide us through all this!!!

Love you ❣️❣️❣️

Hi Mad! A trend that has been going on for a while is HA is in everything. Just like niacinamide, high concentrations is not good. I'm seeing an influx of sunscreens that have more than 3 types of HA. Also, it's gaining popularity in lip products. It's just overload imho.

It’s skincare… it’s not personal. Exactly, thank you Rob! You are bringing a Godfather vibe to YouTube. I think social media has made us forget that we are responsible for the good ethics and standards. Thank you for starting a conversation and company that is more elevated and engaged.

Ah...this was so refreshing. There's a reason I love watching your channel...you just keep things so real, while giving loads of good, normal advice that regular people can get on board with. Handcream hatred? Pfft, the naysayers can pry my L'Occitane Amande Delicious hands from my...well, my cold dead hands lol. (Although seeing that M&S Almond & Vanilla balm, I'll definitely have to check that out the next time I'm in there because it sounds like it might be a nice little dupe. And the sunscreen-shaming? Grr...why do people have to get so militant about something that most of us try to do as best we can with. That Soltan one you use is great and I dare all the women out there who spend hours applying their make-up over their sunscreen to claim that they're really re-applying s/s fourteen times a day. Not happening!

As for things I want to see the back of: putting hyaluronic acid in everything (too much makes our skin oversensitive and when it's overused it can actually cause us to draw moisture from our own skin instead of actually adding anything to it), cleansing bars/soaps (why? why must these keep making a come-back? STOP TRYING TO MAKE SOAP BARS A THING, SKINCARE COMPANIES!!) and also, brands putting SFP in every single day cream. I don't go out every single day and I don't necessarily want to put a heavy night cream on during waking hours. Especially in the summer. I get that using an SPF is important and it's nice to have a bit extra in some moisturisers, but it'd be nice to have a few more options that didn't contain SPF for days when we're not actually going out into the sun's rays.

I could probably come up with a zillion more but they're the ones that annoy me the most, lol.

Thanks for another down-to-earth, very real and relatable video.

Much love

Bex

It’s videos like this that make you my favourite YouTuber ❤️❤️
I hate sunscreen shaming. My typical day means I’m on the go for 10 hours, chasing around after 15 four year olds and dashing from meeting to meeting. I barely have time to go the toilet never mind reapply my sunscreen!! Love you ❤️❤️

Hear hear on the hand cream! I have the same issue with influencers who keep bashing on eye creams as overpriced moisturizers (i'm looking at you Cassandra Bankson). Yes there are eye creams that are just repackaged moisturizers but good eye creams are formulated to work specifically well for the issues related to the delicate skin around the eyes. I love my retinal eye cream in the evening and my caffeine or snail eye cream in the morning. Some 'skinfluencers' need to get off their high horse already.

Thank you for calling out the sunscreen shaming. There is no way that I can apply sunscreen every two hours. I apply a good sunscreen once in the morning and then go sit inside all day at my desk job. I'm not swimming, running or spending time in direct sunlight. The sunscreen isn't going to disappear. It's still there on my face.
