The 787 won't be retired. They'll be sold to another airline.

A better title would be " Norwegian restructures again, retiring its long haul fleet"

Title should've had Norwegian in it. Your title is misleading.

Well, if you stop long haul flights, like Norwegian did, you don't need 787's . And the were already in trouble before the pandemic.

Calling it a “Big 787 Retirement” is a bit misleading. Problems aside, the 787 along with the A350 is the darling of the long haul market but it will take a long time for the air travel market to return to pre-COVID numbers. I wouldn’t be surprised if we lose more airlines. But popular, current production models aren’t being retired; the used aircraft market is also weak but as the travel numbers grow these stored planes will attract a lot of attention for those airlines looking for instant growth and don’t want to pay full price or wait for extended deliveries.

Oh.... Norwegian, being a low cost airline, was one of my only options to ever fly in a Dreamliner :, (

Don't think they'll have any problems finding a buyer

All of those 787's will fly with other airlines. 787 is in demand.

Such a shame.. I flew with Norwegian on their 787s from Gatwick to San Fransisco and return 18 months ago. Their 787 was brilliant, the tickets were incredibly cheap and the service was amazing. Was recommending them to everyone I knew for long haul.

There’s 6 of them parked in SNN if anyone is interested... 😉

This news says more about the airlines than the aircraft

Your message and title are misleading: it's really more about Norwegian's failure than anything to do with 787s.

First 787 fleet retirement I think. Hopefully Norwegian expands into international operations again if the make it through COVID.

The norwegian dreamliner took us to our wedding and honeymoon and that made it so special! Beautiful planes 💚

There goes an affordable option to cross the Atlantic, will miss seeing them at JFK.

Most of Norwegian's 787's were operated out of the UK and Sweden, which when trans-Atlantic service does pick up will be up against large airlines like BA or SAS who will be fighting for every passenger they can get. Best to get out of a battle you can't win.

If the Trent 1000 problems were that bad for Norwegian they really should’ve replaced them with GEnX (after modifying the pylon) as both engines are interchangeable on the aircraft meaning they can be swapped at any time after the pylon has been modified. I can’t believe Norwegian didn’t do this yet have the balls (pun intended) to blame Boeing (whose not an engine builder) for Trent 1000. If their short haul division does take on A321LR I honestly believe they’ll blame Airbus for engine issues in the same way they did to Boeing. It’s madness

I don't think this is an industry-wide retirement of the 787 - Just Norwegian. As for 787's being grounded since early 2020? I live in the heart of Boeing Country, and have heard nothing of the sort.
