The latest version of Woodrow Wilson Bridge was dedicated on May 15th, 2008 connecting Virginia to Maryland. The bridge was design by famed bridge architect Miguel Rosales. Is a vital transportation link for commuters, businesses, trucking companies and those traveling up and down the east coast. However there are other ways to traverse the bridge. On the north side of the bridge is a pedestrian walkway running the entire length of the bridge. It connects Alexandria to National Harbor. One can jog, walk, run or bike across the bridge. The distance is about 1.1 miles. There are the “bump outs” along the pedestrian pathway where one can stop and enjoy the fantastic views the bridge offers. Bring your binoculars or use the free mounted telescopes to view the busy Potomac River. In addition to watching river traffic one can view Alexandria, Reagan National Airport, Bolling Air Force Base, the Naval Research Laboratory, the Jefferson Memorial, the Capitol, the Washington Monument and more. Enjoy this time-lapse video taken from the bridge or better yet cross the bridge, enjoy the vista for yourself and get a little exercise.
