How long can a McDonald's paper cup hold liquid? - 4K Time Lapse

Bear in mind, this video is not a statement against McDonald's. Obviously, they have to coat their cups with a thin plastic film otherwise the drink would soak through in minutes if not seconds. Not only McDonald's, but almost all paper cup has a plastic film in them. It's about the proportions, and most part of the cup is made of paper, which is an environmentally friendly material.
McDonald's pays close attention to the climate, and they work hard to build a more sustainable food industry, which includes lowering the emission of greenhouse gases, developing and using sustainable packaging and dealing with its recycling, lowering the agriculture's impact on the planet, conserving our forests, and making one of their top priorities to use the planet's water resources responsibly. If anything, McDonald's should be the role model of many other restaurants.

I believe this needed to be said because I don't want people to misinterpret this time-lapse.

Now about the video itself:
Have you ever wondered how long could McDonald's paper cup hold your drink? Me too...
Watch this McDonald's paper cup time-lapse video to find out.
For this project, I captured more than 124 000 photos. I had to use a very frequent interval otherwise I would have missed the interesting moment when the cup finally broke down.

They were orange juice, Pepsi, and water. I removed the water so early because nothing interesting happened to it, it just evaporated slowly, and by removing that cup I had more space on the screen for the 2 remaining ones. And I removed the Pepsi as well for the very same reason, so I could get closer to the orange juice cup which started to look the worst. I topped it up with water from time to time because it would have evaporated many times over, and the main goal was to "break" the cup.

I thought it would be done in a couple of days. What do you think, are you surprised? Let me know in the comments below ;) 👇🤝 Be sure to share this video with a friend too! Thanks for watching!

The true message that I'm getting from this is that multiple generations of Flies had a pretty happy life because of this generous person that let a cup of orange juice just mold in his house for almost a year.

Can't believe how this person interacts with guests that he brings home.
"Oh don't worry that's just my mcdonalds cup with soda and living microorganisms that I've kept for the past year"

its crazy when you think of how many different projects are going on simultaneously so that we get long lapse videos so close together

1:45 even the flies didn’t want to drink that

Water: Does absolutely nothing

Soda: Grows a little bit of mold

Orange juice: Summons Cthulhu

I'm literally very happy that they haven't invented smell-through-screen technology yet

Funfact: It depends on the humidity and temperature of the room as well. If it's cold the cup can last much longer than when it's hot and steamy.

2:33 ok so basically even paper cups are mixed with plastic. Nice. Good to know that this is not only rubbish food but also rubbish factory.

I think it's safe to say the mold had far more of an effect on the cup than the liquid itself

Apprentice: "Master, how long can a McDonald's cup hold water for?"
Master:"Short answer: long enough."
Apprentice:"What's the long answer?"
Master: *sigh*

The thing that’s crazy to me is thinking about how many generations of flies/maggots we saw in this video. I mean there lifespan is so short

Mans created a whole universe complete with microscopic organisms, a new unique biome teeming with life. We saw it’s beautiful beginning and tragic end all in one time lapse 😭

This cup holds up surprisingly well. I was always paranoid that these are going to start leaking in a couple of hours

I was more shocked to see how quickly mold formed on the soft drinks, never seen that before. Don't really drink it either, really cool time lapse. I hope the room didn't smell too bad from the degradation. 230 days, I mean I would have given up after two weeks.

I never understood videos like this, who has a camera that they won’t need for an entire year and also the space and motivation to continue to care for this long! Bravo!!
