What Made the Nintendo DS So Perfect?

Nintendo has a long history of handheld consoles, but easily the most successful and iconic is the Nintendo DS. In this video we take a look back at this console, and see what made it so amazing. This is my Nintendo DS retrospective, enjoy!

I was watching videos about the ds for nostalgia and the agorithm recomended me your video. Im so glad it did because it was amazingly made and brought me back to when I was little pictochatting with my cousins. Ourside of kid pc games on my dad's computer, the ds is what go me into videogames.

Mario Party DS is hands down the best Mario Party game I've ever personally played, and the other staple titles are phenomenal as well. I don't think there was a single outright bad Pokémon game released on the console, with memories especially going to the second generation of Mystery Dungeon games.

I sadly never figured out how the whole WiFi thing worked during the console's hayday. I was a kid who, while using the internet to play flash games and club penguin and whatnot, didn't really know what WiFi was other than "the internet". It would've been fun to experience all of the WiFi features in the games that I played while I could, but I at least got to experience full tables of Mario Kart, Mario Party, and several friends with Pokémon games

Honestly, in my humble opinion the DS was the greatest console of all time. Its graphics were amazing for the time (at least until the psp came around) and it had some of the best first and third party support of any Nintendo console. Pictochat was a blast at school and DS download play is to this day my favorite thing Nintendo has EVER done.

The Nintendo DS was my first ever video game console and Super Mario 64 DS was my first ever video game. The console will be 20 years old soon, and I'm a year older! That's crazy!

For me, the DS is just one of those things where you can have a nostalgic time playing on the console but still find ways to make new memories and have fun! Some of my favorite games on the console are Super Mario 64 DS, New Super Mario Bros., the absolutely underrated game that is Super Princess Peach, and Sonic Rush. And that's just the free sample list of my favorites!

Greatest device/console ever. Online connectivity in 2005, the most formidable battery ever created by man, revolutionize touch screen, GBA slot, etc. you literally can’t beat this.

I owe a lot to the DS, it was a console that unleashed my creativity and imagination in a way that no other console could replicate, from being able to create my own creature in Spore Creatures, drawing heroes and level assets in Drawn To Life, and most especially making plenty of Flipnotes that were heavily influenced by many of it's popular animators when Hatena was thriving. My experience with the console helped me to become an artist, and I can't imagine how much of a different person I'd be if I never had a DS. It also helped define my love for platformers too with games like Kirby Super Star Ultra and The Legendary Starfy. Like so much of my art is so heavily influenced by my experiences on the DS and I wouldn't want it any other way. It is single-handedly my favorite console of all time.

One more note to add to this video, is how the best Pokémon games of all time where released during this console’s lifespan.
Which made even more people buy this console, since Pokémon also continued growing in popularity (not only with games).

I remember the DS Lite being the most futuristic looking portable console i've ever seen, I remember being 5 years old and seeing my sister get a pink DS Lite for her birthday and thought it was the coolest console ever.

This footage you showed of Mario Party DS made me realize that I played this game before, but I was young and I totally forgot. Also because we don't have the game anymore. My step-brother may have sold it before I could properly remember.

what are you talking about when you said the original ds was ugly? Man, it looks so nostalgic. It looked kinda futuristic at the time.

Sure, the ds lite with its minimalistic design looks cleaner. But the original DS design definitely has some charm!

my hot take is that the original DS model looks super cool. reminds me of that pseudo-futuristic aesthetic of the original xbox and the ps2
