I had no idea grocery stores got that big 💀 They're all f-ing tiny here in Europe. Not "see all 4 walls" tiny, but certainly not half the size of ikea either

This is how a lot of European stores operate. Essepecially the smaller size of stores

As a German, I can confirm that Aldi is amazing. Clear and consistent layout, and you can get your stuff and be in and out in no time. Also great prices and good quality.

Here in my city in australia, Aldi showed up a couple months ago. A couple weeks later, the big chain duopoly supermarkets Woolworths and Coles were suddenly slashing their inflated prices because everyone was going to Aldi instead. Like they were rushing to keep the shelves stocked there with how fast everything was flying off of them.

Warlmart: comes to Germany
Walmart: We're not doing great
Walmart: leaves Germany
Aldi: comes to America
Aldi: We're doing great
Aldi: Grows faster than everyone else

As a European this was like saying that oranges are orange

My local Aldi is staffed with 5 employees. In that 5 employees is the Manager, check out, stock the shelves, do online orders, clean. I walked into a Walmart across the street and there were 12 employees in 1 aisle texting.

As a European I never thought American supermarkets were that different

Fun fact: Aldi is actually two companies, Aldi Nord (north) and Aldi Sud (South). Aldi Sud operates in America as Aldi, Aldi Nord is Trader Joe’s.

For me as a German it's funny to see a German supermarket chain in the US

I love the fact that the tax is already included in the item, so if something costs 2 dollars, is 2 dollars.

They’re taking over here in Australia too because they don’t rely on the same supplier that is owned by our big 2 grocery stores (Woolworths and Coles) like our independent grocers are. They undercut the other 2 and hence they are spreading and growing quickly. The more competition the better for consumers pockets

It’s interesting how European/ German supermarkets are doing incredibly well in the US, but stuff like Walmart miserably failed here in Germany. I think it’s the blend of ok prices and a not too overwhelming amount of choice

Aldi has honestly gotten me and the fam through some tough summers when there's less work for my mom

Here in Britain the Aldi are small compared to some of the main supermarkets, especially the massive big out of town Asda or Tesco, but none of our supermarkets are ever as big as what you showed for a ‘normal’ supermarket. You can’t immediately see all walls but if you turned on the spot you could and they’re probably 2-3x the size of an Aldi.

I’ve been shopping at Aldi recently since I discovered it, and I don’t mind the narrower selection of items, in fact it makes my life easier. And if it comes with cost reduction for them and for me even better

In Ireland we have had Aldi for decades, and its more popular than ever. They and Lidl are the only ones to beat inflation

Funny is that these gigantic stores like walmart are rather rare compared to stores like aldi or lidl here in europe. Or well at least in germany.

Bruh, literally every European country have at least 3-5 stores of such type😂
