From someone who only knows Animate and is fascinated by the traditional elements made using TVPaint - thank you so much!

There’s one big con with Animate that most people won’t realize until it hits them: Adobe still uses the old file format as when it used to be Flash. So if your app crashes or if your PC shuts down on accident, even if you save your progress your file has a chance of getting corrupted. This happened to me in college during finals after I spent so much time on an animation test, only for the entire project to corrupt itself and I couldn’t repair it. I had to remake the whole thing again with 2 days to spare.

Yes I could’ve done backups as I saved, but Adobe is smart enough to make save points for their other software, and yet Animate still gets the short end of the stick? Nah, that’s why I’ve avoided it since then and have only been using other software for animation now

you actually cannot use the camera to extend your canvas (Drawing area). In TVpaint if you want a unique canvas size, you have to make a new project.

Personally it's a restriction that I find to be a bit of a sore spot in TVpaint because if you have to storyboard or animate a shot with a sweeping camera you have to basically work out of two projects at the same time, and use the camera plane tool to reference the other project (that has to be open in another tab at the same time) to make it work. It's cumbersome. TvP should let people make unique canvas sizes in the same project file.

Thanks for a balanced and concise big-picture overview.

Personally, I feel An should have evolved waaay more than it is currently. Just insert some features from after effects and it will be able to compete with the likes of toonboom.

TV Paint was originally known as TV Paint. It was acquired by NewTek software and rebranded as "Aura", and also by Bauhause to "Mirage", but that was only temporarily.

Thank you for this useful video, I've been wondering which one to choose, can you make a character in tv paint that has some parts moving while others the same throughout the animation? Like only the hair moves and the face stays the same?

Can you explain what are the differences between Blender and TVPaint when it comes to creating a more traditional look to your animations? Also the program Maya I’ve seen a lot of people talking about it, have you tried it?
