Do not use Adobe products. Their pricing methods have become predatory and to top it off, they fall behind when it comes to brushes. There are high tech things like watercolor brushes that other softwares use that Photoshop only tries to simulate. You will miss out. Even for simple non-animation things like tiled textures, Krita does better. Same thing with 3D softwares like Maya that have become insanely expensive, but is now falling behind to the free Blender. Just incredible to me when I have used all these various softwares for 20 years now.

I'm a Krita user myself, and the recent update includes a "tweening" function that REALLY speeds up workflow.

Grease pencil is awesome! It takes time to figure out but it's so worth! You can also do everything else in Blender and most shortcuts are the same everywhere 🥰

I switched from Moho to Grease Pencil for my 2D work, love the 2D/3D integration, it is developed extremely fast, and the price is hard to beat! 😎

Very helpful. I'm a student, so I pay the student price for the Adobe suite. I had no idea that Photoshop had a time slider! Lol, I'm blown away. Very cool.

aftereffects is totally not suited for fbf animation. It's more suited for vector/puppet animation (but even that is not a strong suit, unless you use third party plugins)

I use Clip Studio Paint to draw. I wish they could update their animation feature.

I have been animating for years and work in gaming industry as an animator. Lemme share my experience with you.... I will go from worse to best.

Adobe After Effect: it's not a frame by frame animation software, maximum you can do is tweening and vector manipulation which is neither good for a animator who prefere drawing for frame by frame animation. also it's the last option I will say anyone to choose from.

Pencil2D: it's not the best but for a beginner I will definitely suggest this software cause it's free and beginners can learn it in 30 minutes if not less.

Adobe Animate: it's good but I won't suggest it if you are dreaming high. It doesn't even have Raster mode neither slow/lazy drawing support for straight drawing. means you need to draw line then undo then again draw until you get your preferred smooth line.

Moho: it's bone system is really cool, everything that can be moved can be animated here. even though their drawing functions are not that strong but it's a strong software, it supports raster drawing too after Moho Pro 12 version.

Krita/CSP/Photoshop: I'm keeping them in same tab cause they are pretty much the same. but CSP has better drawing functions than Photoshop cz CSP is made for drawing and Photoshop is made especially for editing. Krita is also good now after their recent update, rhey added tweening and lag also reduced.

TVPaint: This software is awesome for frame by frame, I would say it's the exact same traditional animation software just paper and pencil to computer. it has some awesome fx. I even use this software for video composition too 😂 unfortunately no Vector and some minor limitations.

OpenToonZ: it's the 2nd best after ToonBoom harmony. 2nd best because it's pencil/pen tool lags a little. it's too little lag but if you are doing frame by frame animation for a long time and experienced in fast drawing you can feel it with a little uncomfortable drawing experience. I guess that's because this open source software doesn't have as much support as blender. hopefully they will fix it in next update, I'm really sad to leave this software, honestly I don't want to.

ToonBoom: beast of 2D animation, it can do almost everything that any other 2D software can. but too hard to learn

Hello! does anyone know a method by which I can add an effect done on one single PNG frame to the entire PNG frames automatically so that when I convert to video, the whole PNG sequence has the same effect on em. Eb Synth software does that perfectly, but the software gives an error message on my PC. I'm trying to find a different method/software to animate in the most stress-free way possible. Thanks!🙃🙃

Out of all of these I prefer CSP because they have a native iPad app, sure I can use the other softwares on my iPad with Sidecar but its a bit clunky. The Adobe software is definitely the worst here, AE and PS aren't designed for fbf animation and Animate has pretty lackluster drawing tools and is only vector based. Pencil2D is a free software made by one person so cut him some slack (but its still better than the Adobe stuff LOL)
