Ironically this would have been a much happier ending for Light.
He hadn't turned full psychopath yet and had only murdered people who were criminals so he would likely get out of jail eventually. His family also wouldn't have been ruined and Misa wouldn't have followed him down a dark path.

I’d love a version of death note where inner monologue is out of the picture. Then we could just see everyone else’s perspective of the concerning amount of time It takes light to answer questions, and the silent moments of just him staring into space.
