Light really believed he'd won, but the only reason he lost was because he was arrogant, and over confident, that's what blinded him, that's why he lost.

Near beat Light in his own game. Light's plan was good in the first half of the final showdown but I can tell he was clearly rushing to end Near . I'm starting to see how he lost completely. if Light had to chose to Save Takada Same goes to Mikami they wouldn't have lost .

Near is so underrated, one of the best characters.

People often forget how due process of the law played an important part to the story of Death Note and why, despite Near and Mello being inferior to L were the ones who ended up capturing Kira.

L always knew thay Light was Kira because Light made his patterns obvious to him, but being able to prove it based off patterns alone would not fly at all in the Japanese Legal System. L needed definitive evidence of Light being Kira, either a murder weapon or a confession. And while Kira wasn't able to outsmart L all the way through, his knowledge of the legal system was enough to keep him away from being convicted.

It wasn't until Mikumi made the mistake of foolishly going against Light's directive and trying to silence Tekumi with the Death Note does definitive evidence against Light and Kira pop up, the smoking gun that finally lets the police convict him decisively, and Near and Mello were able to make the most of that opportunity.

Again it's not enough to know who Kira is, but it's being able to prove to others who Kira is. Near and Mello succeeded where L failed by being able to live long enough to be able to prove that Light is Kira

I refuse to believe that Near's subordinate copied the whole Death Note, in perfectly identical handwriting, in one night

I like how Light is finally proclaimed as a serial killer. There are real world people who believe his delusion.

It’s so cool to think about how Light lost, one way is because he put his faith in the wrong people, another is overconfidence, mine originally was he was rusty, but it’s so many different reasons and they all could be it, if Light had one backup plan, or just stayed silent he could of still won, a simple backup of giving the crony paper torn from the notebook at a way earlier date, or telling him to write his name but spell it slightly wrong, something simple that could of saved him

You gotta be fair, Near was the prodigy of L, people just find it hard to accept that since L had already met Kira and have him on record, Near could at least be able to find out who he is and how close he was to L.

I am not surprised he lost in stories like this the villains alway lose even more so when there close to victory his arrogance was truly his downfall.

It's so hilarious how so many viewers are so butt hurt about near winning they think he cheated when he just explained what happened. How did Giovanni get into Mikami deposit? he's a government agent working on a case to catch a worldwide criminal all he'd have to do is flash his badge and the bank would let him in no problem. The biggest one is how could Giovanni write down so many names in a single night? who said he did all near said was they modified both the fake and real note book all he'd have to do is take out the pages of the fake and real note book and swap them around hence modifying it only name Giovanni might have had to write is takadda. Why didn't light keep pieces of the note book else where? he did near saw that pages of the book was ripped out and came to the conclusion that light was using them to kill in secret that's why he as ryuk if you can kill someone with a ripped page and ryuk said yes. Light had no way out of this one

I imagine hearing Saw's twist reveal music was played. And in the words of John Krammer/Jigsaw to Light Yagami/Kira, "Game Over."

Ironic that the reason Light lost was due to human error. He was long gone from sympathetic towards other people that he’s been using them as nothing but tools for his plan and never considered the possibility of his puppets doing something that could mess up his plan.

Near got lucky that Mikami done messed up. Had Mikami not “made any unnecessary movements” then the whole lot of them would’ve been past tense
