If a caboose was in service like the days of old, the crew would have smelled the smoke or they would have spotted the sparks going around the bends during vision check. Which makes me wonder if there was vision checks when going around bends by the engineer/conductor? Plus when alarm first came on why didn't they stop?

I bet the railroad started that really stupid idea of taking the conductor out of the train. Leaving the entire train to be controlled by just the engineer or something so extremely idiotic like that. All in hopes to save a lot of money only too have another major railroad disaster wherever people's lives are at risk not to mention all the people, livestock and other creatures that perished in the derailment
