Isn't the generator in wind turbines AC? Why would you need an inverter? In fact, it seems that HVDC is the best solution to the transport electricity over long distances, thus if anything, a rectifier is needed for the wind farms located far from the coast

Great video. Learned a lot I was wondering about. Although, something I am still wondering, even if it’s surface matter was explained. How exactly are these fiber optic cables, which from my understanding transfer the electricity generated by the turbines, drilled into the sea floor, connected to each other (underground of the sea floor), connected to the central power station, which is then connected to the land electricity plant (again, from what I understood in this video, all underground of the sea floor). How is all of this very precise drilling and connecting done??

Fantastic video. Really wanted to learn more about offshore wind turbines and this definitely satisfied that want. I was a little confused as to hurricanes and turbines though, wouldn't a hurricane destroy a turbine? I understand in as many as 70, 000 turbines perhaps the force they collectively produce could slow the hurricane and protect the turbines, but say I installed 8 offshore wind turbines near new orleans. Wouldn't these all be destroyed next time a hurricane took place? It would be infeasible to construct 70, 000 wind turbines at once and if they would be destroyed in small numbers it would make incremental construction impossible.

Please inform yourself better. Generators in windmills are AC, not DC. Simple asynchronous at the beginning, now several types. But AC. No sense in putting DC brush- or other types of machines in large windmills.
