welcome back to my Trucking and travel daily vlog here on YouTube called this guy trucks. I have been a trucker for 10 years and in that time I have been an owner-operator a lease purchase operator and a company driver. currently I am an owner operator for Swift Transportation. today I want to talk about Prime Inc and the amount of angry disgruntled lease purchase operators that are now on YouTube and talking about their experience with Prime.

The problem is most Lease driver working for prime, struggling because the rate is too low, and too much deadhead sometimes goes to 400 miles and we dont get paid for the deadhead and if you refuse that load you stay for 2 days without load at the other side some youTuber with following working for prime making crazy money, because prime gives the good loads to present prime good way, but the rest of us strugling

I'm prime lease and you're right about the high fixed cost in the low freight market. But I personally took home 5200 out of 10700 last Friday. I looked at swift a week ago saw the rpm and said I wouldn't get out of bed for that. My fixed cost is 1500 with another 1500 for my trainee and 3k budgetted for fuel. So I budget 6k in costs and have been surviving but the only way to survive right now is with a team

Prime's #1 customer is their lease drivers - that they're going broke doesn't make a difference to them. There's a nearly endless supply of brainwashed drivers just itching for their chance at a lease truck. They start 160 students in their CDL school every week, and from day 1 they're hyped up about the lease option. Success Leasing has all the info on costs - $900-$1300/wk for a truck is right. When I was at Prime for my CDL, it felt like everyday someone (usually my trainer, who leased) was telling me how good the lease is, how you can't fail, how it's literally stupid not to lease. My trainer got into arguments with Prime company drivers because they didn't lease. Prime wants that because it gets more to sign up, and even if the lease driver fails, Prime still gets their money. Let's not forget to mention that leasers who train PAY for their student. I got my CDL and left... I got better training elsewhere.

everyone always mentions that giant truck payment, and in a regular lease with no buy out option, sure the payment probably shouldn't be that high. but you do actually get some of that back with a lease completion bonus (weather or not that's a defensible position is up to people who aren't me). but in a lease _purchase_ with payments that high that means in 3-4 years the truck is paid off with a "balloon" payment of like $1 just so there can be a cash transaction for that. meanwhile at swift you have a lot LESS costs but if you want to buy that truck at the end its like what, 70k still?

if you want to buy a truck and have a $700 _monthly_ payment and no balloon payment you're going to have no choice but to finance it for 13-14 years

Only the prime youtubers with a following are making money, everyone else is broke. Thank god i jumped ship before they really go belly up.

The only way to overcome this bad market at prime is to be prepared for it. Those of us who have been around know better, things suck but have been getting better revenue wise.

Josh, some of your best rants were you going off on the SUPER TRUCKERS in orientation, those were great.

My lease with prime is up next April, I’ve been with them for 9 years and I’ll be leaving. Things have really changed in the last few years.

Your low truck payment comes with a hefty ballon payment though. Where I’m at my truck payment is $1046wk. It’s not a walk away though. It’s set up as a loan with the carrier as lien holder. $155k at 9.5% for 3 years. No balloon no buy out. They also sign the title over at the halfway point in the lease.

Side note when I got the title to my last truck NY screwed up the transfer and gave me a title with no lien holder 😂

I've never really understood the drama with driver facing camera's in company trucks either. As if we weren't being watched already. American's sold off our right to privacy a long long time ago

You’re not inaccurate at all I lease a 2024 Volvo VNL 860 from Prime and my truck payment by itself is $1275 a week. I paid $1551 a week in fixed cost before fuel. I was one of those idiots that should never sign that lease Now I’m stuck in a truck that I can barely go home to see my family in because it cost too much to take two days off and I’m a trainer and there’s weeks my student makes more than I do because I have to pay his wage too
