Officials provided an update as Canadian and U.S. crews continue the search for a submersible that has gone missing in the northern Atlantic Ocean during an underwater tourist expedition to view the site of the Titanic shipwreck.

A Canadian aircraft detected underwater noises Wednesday that offered a glimmer of hope for those lost aboard OceanGate Expeditions’ Titan, as estimates suggest as little as a day’s worth of oxygen could be left if the vessel is still functioning.

U.S. Coast Guard Capt. Jamie Frederick said they “don’t know what the noise is,” adding that they are “searching in the area where the noises were detected,” but analysis by experts in the U.S. Navy on what the noise might be, has come back as “inconclusive” thus far.

Carl Hartsfield, the director at the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution, said "the noises have been described as banging noises,” adding that it’s “analysis over time” that will allow them to figure out what the noise actually is.

Aboard the vessel is pilot Stockton Rush, the CEO of the company leading the expedition. His passengers are a British adventurer, two members of a Pakistani business family and a Titanic expert.

The Titanic is an underwater grave yard. There’s something wrong using that graveyard as a tourist attraction. Bad energy, man!

You'd think the submersible would have been equipped with some sort of emergency beacon for tracking.

Imagine being the billionaire trapped down there and knowing that all the money in the world can't save your a$$.

Damn it's almost like if you build a submarine that violates all safety standards and deliberately skirts regulation and then go far deeper than standard subs can go it might not end well

Death sells but a slow high profile torturous death with a countdown is priceless for MSM.

What is it about "I don't know what the noise is" that these reporters don't understand.

If they are still alive down there I hope none of them resort to anything drastic as time runs out. There's a simple way to make the oxygen last longer and that option may seem less insane the longer this goes on

The banging noises was the rich dudes pummeling the dude who made the sub

I can’t believe it disappeared and no way to track it. If they are faking their disappearance, they did it.

The titanic is just under 4000M. This sub was rated for 4000M but was not actually tested for this depth. It was manned by the CEO at a previous dive around 3000M. There are so many red flags here this is just one of them.

In this US Coast Guard update moments ago, he says the bangs, which were analyzed by the Navy, are inconclusive. Not sure how that rumour started about 30 minute intervals, but it’s not been substantiated.

UPDATE: those banging noises near the wreck are very likely nothing more than loosely anchored shreds of titanic wreckage, being flung against the side of the titanic itself by the rolling seafloor currents, its NOT the pple in the sub, they are long gone in an implosion, all that will b found will b metal slabs of the subs outer shell...

They sound more excited and willing to spend the money to find these lost souls, then put out Canada’s wildfires

"The banging noise sounds almost like a CEO banging his head against the wall for hiring people based on physical attributes rather than their qualifications and experience"

-Coast Guard probably.

If they were working class people this wouldn't be on the news. I feel bad for the kid.

This is so crazy to watch unfold, im praying for the people down there. It must be insane to be stuck at the bottom of the ocean almost right next to the titanic. That's gotta be weighing on their minds too. It's eery that 111 years later were carrying out another search and rescue mission in the exact same spot!

You'd think a sub going that deep would be tied to a cable of some kind for safety.

The CEO bravely volunteered to undergo the first test dive, but unfortunately, he decided to stop at a depth of 2, 300 meters due to safety concerns. In another exploration attempt, an individual constructed a submersible using carbon fiber materials and attached it to a strong 7, 000-meter steel cable. This unmanned submersible was sent down to the ocean depths, but it experienced an implosion at a depth of 3, 400 meters. Remarkably, the submersible had been designed to withstand pressures at depths of up to 9, 000 meters. Although all participants had signed waivers, it is evident that the submersible should not have been manned until its maximum depth capabilities were thoroughly tested. This precautionary measure aligns with common sense and ensures the safety of the crew.

I don't understand.. they say the sub lost contact 1:45 into its 2h decent to the Titanic. If the mothership dropped it over the Titanic shipwreck, and the Titan was nearly at its location when it lost contact, wouldn't the logical thing be to search the wreck? In theory if it lost power wouldn't it have just sank?

“When I started the business, one of the things you’ll find, there are other sub-operators out there, but they typically have, uh, gentlemen who are ex-military submariners, and they — you’ll see a whole bunch of 50-year-old white guys, ” Rush told Teledyne Marine in a newly resurfaced undated Zoom interview.

“I wanted our team to be younger, to be inspirational " - Stockton Rush, CEO OceanGate

That's right feelings and virtue signalling over expertise and skill. What could go wrong?
