Yeah, i feel the same way. It is like that quote that says, 'beautiful things don't need to tell you they are beautiful. They just are.' But at the same time, for obvious things that people may be insecure about such as the loss of a limb or anything like that, i think it is helpful to see others who struggled with it come to accept and love their appearence.

Another issue I find is that the body positivity movement is still focussing on physical appearance, rather than other traits or topics such as kindness, intelligence, humour, determination, curiosity etc. When 80% of the videos that you see are about physical appearance, whether in a positive or negative way, that is inevitably what people end up focussing on. I personally find it more helpful subscribing to people playing instruments, cooking, talking about science or something else they’re passionate about, than lots of body positive influencers.

Firstly, I don't think anyone can get rid of hip dips because they're something that's naturally occuring bc there's no bone or anything underneath for your skin to lay flat on... that's why it dips and you are so right for this. And second, another Youtuber I love (Jordan Theresa) once spoke about this and she said social media's own need to manufacture insecurities that need remeding or be replaced with self-love was getting really really persistent wherein there were videos on how to get rid of things no one would even have considered a problem in the first place. She called it something along the lines of "insecurity mining" or something like that. She's so smart for that.

It's your personal experience. Most women learned & were shamed for our hip dips, stretch marks, cellulite, etc. by media and people we know personally, and body positivity movement helps us unlearn this trauma and shame.

Yeah, absolutely, if we don't have problem with certain Body traits that we've got, that we mustn't even mention them.

Well said, you gained another loyal friend just now. . Keep going, we love what you're doing here...!

I actually heared of many negative comments about hip dips or "Violin hips" b3fore. As someone who has them I also hated them before the body positive movement even became a thing

To love yourself is still the best and finding someone who loves you for being yourself is even more wonderful. Ppl need to stop convincing the rest of the world just to convince themselves their flaws or insecurities are okay. They are and will be okay regardless of other's opinions.

This happened to me with a thigh gap lol. I remember being a teenager and hearing about how I shouldn’t worry about a thigh gap, and that instantly made me worry about it. And I didn’t even have it, I was skinny at the time, yet I ended up constantly checking if I have it and it horrified me once I gained some weight for the first time.

So true. I feel like the body positivity should be more about showing and less about telling. For example including people without cellulite aswell as peopIe with cellulite.
I feel like media telling you to love your hip dips or love your cellulite sounds like those backhanded compiments: you look so good in that dress for someone with so much cellulite...

but i feel like you are ignoring the reason people have to say “love your hip dips” etc. it became a toxic body checking trend and fitness trend to point out hip dips, or how to get rid of hip dips. THAT is what creates the insecurities, so of course the body positivity movement is going to at least try to counteract that.

This! For hip dips but also for stretchmarks. I never really noticed them and certainly not as something bad, but they bother me now

So true, didn't know about hip dips all my life too

They were often critizised before and many ppl created the mindset that they were smh bad. So its actually justified to say its nothing bad. The problem is not the body positivity as an reaction of the critizism but the critizism itself. If there werent so much critic you wouldnt need to soothe it.

There is not one part of a woman's body that has not been under scrutiny, in or out of fashion. So, let's just love what we have...unless you desire to change it, without judgement. If something is seen as less than ideal, do more research about who made it fashionable and check out their agenda....before switching it with your own awareness, mindset or opinion. Let your own opinion about hip dips reign supreme. It is okay.

True body confidence is body apathy. You just let yourself be, and watch how much life improves

There's quite new research out right now that says an overweight person whom isnt bothered by their body lives with very few consequences. It's those who feel shame by it whom live shorter and feel physically worse.

Personally I do not believe shaming anyone would make them able to "put in the work". Accepting them and making them happy with their current bodies is what will make them less anxious and actually possible to make a longterm change which lasts!

I have thin hair, and when people tell me that my hair looks great, I know that it's not true, and they are just saying to make me feel better.
