GoPro Hero 7 Black | 30 Days In Review

I like to hold off doing full reviews of something like the Hero 7 Black until I have had a good amount of time to use it in real-world situations as I would normally use a GoPro. It has been out for about 30 days now and I feel like I can make a well-informed opinion on it. This is my 30 Day review of the Hero 7 Black and I can say that my opinion on it has changed from those early first few days.

Amendment: I stated in the video you can only shoot timewarp videos in 1080, this is not the case you can shoot timewarp in 4K as pointed out by a viewer!!

One thing I forgot to touch base on in my review is the fact that there are some that have reported having issues with the battery not charging properly and problems upgrading the firmware. I never included that in my review as I never really experienced any issues with my Hero 7. I can say that when I initially updated the firmware for the first time via the GoPro app It failed once but went through on the second attempt. However I have had that issue with past gopros as well.

I’ve been very impressed with the stabilization. It won’t replace even my DSLR due to deep depth of field and no lens swap. But it is a must-have tool in my kit.

Great review as always. The reason why your HDR images is looking like it's too much is because HDR is meant to be taken in dark environments, not bright daylight.

Thanks, good, informative review... For years I tried to get the GoPro 5 and then 6 to film smooth footage on my Harley trips, ie: Blue Ridge Parkway etc etc, but could never even stand to watch the footage myself, just too shaky, the 7 IMO changed that, like you said, doesn't replace a good gimble, but at least it makes the footage watchable on a big beast of a bike like mind. Able to share footage finally. I did the trade up from GoPro, sent them my 2 5's and a 6, and got 3 7's at $300 US bucks each, good deal for my use. Thx again for the info.

I wish some of these videos would mention that the battery life is bad, the GPS time stamp is off and can't be corrected, and for editing with GPS data/gauges one is stuck with the GoPro Quik software that is very limited. Telemetry/GPS data is not available when using the files in Final Cut or Premiere best I can tell.

The camera is ok if you need only short clips. I'm getting severe overheating problems (and it is not summer even!) for long clips. I need hour long clips often.
To avoid overheating I need to 1) turn off stabilization 2) record in 1080p. So, paying for a good stabilization and 4k resolution seems to have no point in my use case. Gopro forums seem to have lot of messages with tips like "record only short clips" from manufacturer (in addition to recording at low resolusion like 1080p and not using stabilization).
Needless to say I have all the bells and whissles like voice control, wireless connections and so on turned off.

The stabilisation feature does work with 4k video recording. The screen will originally display stabilisation not supported when 4k is selected, however, when you click to leave that screen and click to go straight back into it, HyperSmooth stabilisation will be highlighted. It's because of a bug in the software.

I just bought mine because of your reviews and I've own many go pros but I'm not a Technology geek so your videos are helping me so, so much. And this to me is money well spent. I will keep on watching and learning because all my other go pro's ended up just sitting in a closet, but this one is awesome. Much, much easier to use, especially with someone like yourself teaching all of us dummies. 👍✌

I just bought a second one used for $250 Cdn 11/03 /2021. From everything I've seen paying 670$ for the ten, I decided to get a second 7 black. For the average everyday shooter this is very very good quality. No need paying big bucks for the upgrades. The seven black ( silver / white are crap) in my opinion is the best cam gp had made. Buy used, buy cheap. Lots of people buy or get as gifts, use a few times and then they sit on the shelf, so like the one I got ( she used twice) is basically new. Not to mention the extras, 128g class 10 SD card, head harness with clip ( still in box unopened) and a Reach pole. Go for the seven.

Thank you for the honest review. I bought the GoPro Hero7 Black and premiered it today on my YouTube channel. I'm yet to explore the GoPro in depth this weekend. Does hypersmooth work in 4K? I found that the hypersmooth option was disabled at 4k and enabled at 2.7k. I'll get back to it and post an update soon.

New to GoPro black7 ... took it to the pool to test out the water proofing and video quality. As a hobbyist photographer I was certainly pleased with the result, 25 minutes of recording, in under and above water, using the “floaty” handle accessory, throwing it hands free, and handheld. 😉🇦🇺
