GoPro Hero 7 Black in 2024… is it still good?

Good review of the GoPro Hero 7 Black. I use two Hero 7 Blacks and a Hero 5 Black for all my video work. I have stayed with this format as I have a number of accessories that fit across both generations. Battery life, I seem to get more life than you had on your test. However I have multiple genuine GoPro batteries which can be bought very cheaply second hand here in the UK as folks have upgraded to newer models. Someone mentioned over heating - that's not a problem in sunny Scotland 😃

I just finished using my Hero 7 Black during scuba diving on a vacation. It still shoots beautiful video and hypersmooth isn't really needed for me since nothing moves fast underwater. A fellow diver had the newest Go Pro 13 and was having a helluva time trying to get it out of her underwater case. I appreciated my camera's small size as it popped right out of the case easily so I could swap the battery before my next dive.

The picture quality is lagging a bit behind modern cams, but it's still much better than something like an Akaso. But what makes it worth it is its the cheapest camera you can find with proper hypersmooth EIS that you can use for real action sports like downhill MTB, BMX, Kayaking, etc.

I have a question. I have a GoPro Hero 5. I love it but I get this kind of choppy footage. I don’t get it. If I keep the camera still it’s ok, if I pan with it etc. it looks choppy stuttery. Hmmmm. Do you think it can be an SD Card thing?
