I was born in NYC. I chose, as an adult, to move to Philly. My neighborhood, Spruce Hill in University City, has been compared to Park Slope or Cobble Hill in Brooklyn. Larger Victorian homes (mine is three stories with six bedrooms) in a setting of shady streets, safe at night, well maintained parks, and an excellent variety of cafes, bistros, and restaurants.

If I lived in NYC, I too would buy a home in Philadelphia specifically near Center City.

With the large influx of tax refugees from NJ & NY, there has been a corresponding noticeable large reduction in the 'sense of community', common courtesy, and awareness of fellow human beings in Philadelphia and its suburbs. The main problem is that the new arrivals seem to immediately forget the reasons of what precipitated for them to abandon their former residence areas. Many of the 'locals' openly discuss the burning down of the bridges across the Delaware River ... common discussions for the entirety of PA's eastern border from Delaware all the way to 'upstate' New York.
