I’m a native New Yorker (to be specific, a native Manhattanite), and my wife and I are raising our kids here. To add to that I will note that both of my parents moved here when they were infants or toddlers (my dad from Washington, DC and my mom from New Jersey). All of that to say that I am a true New Yorker, but I consider anyone to be a New Yorker to be a person who embraces, loves and truly calls the city home!

I came to New York City for the first time on June 7. I completely fell in love with it and immediately booked a return trip a few weeks later. The biggest shock to me was that its really nothing like they show on TV and gets an unnecessary bad rap. I found New Yorkers for the most part to be rather friendly and helpful. There are alot of things to do and see in the city and beyond. I do photography and have spent a total of 12 days there so far taking 1000's of pictures and feel I haven't even scratched the surface. I did some looking and found I can get a job there that pays about 40 percent more than my current job and the cost of living is almost the same as my current town. Add to that not needing to buy a new car and I save $700/ month there. I know its not for everyone but my advice is visit and see for yourself. I watched this channel for almost 6 moths and feel it really prepared me for the New York Experience.

BIG fan of your channel!!! Too many people are capitalizing on how “bad” nyc is just for clickbaits so thanks for always keeping it real!

I was born and bred in NYC. Total of 45 years there. I left 5 years ago and I’ll always be a NYer. My wife lived there 15 years and was never a NYer, not for one day of her poser life!

I moved to New York City from Australia 19 years ago. Best. Decision. Ever. Yes, I miss home, and go back regularly to see family with my husband, but this city has a "hum", it's hard to explain, but that is how I know someone is a "New Yorker" they know what that hum is. It just runs on a different frequency, and it's magic. ♥

Ive lived in NYC for about 10 months now, honestly on the crime front I could be seeing it from rose tinted glasses but ive not really seen it to be worse than anywhere else and havent really felt unsafe.

If crime is your concern, stay where you are.

My cousin. female, moved to SF from NYC about 15 years ago. She said she felt safer in NYC largely because no matter the hour there are always people out on the streets in NYC while SF rolls up the sidewalks fairly early and you’ll often be alone on a dark street.

Furniture ——> Ikea delivers.
Grocery stores delivers. Fresh Direct delivers. Unfortunately, Trader Joe’s do not. 😢
Regarding the subways, never take the last 2 cars (iffy people). Never go into a car when the AC is not working. Never go into the car if a homeless person is sprawled on the seats (smells). Stand with your back against the wall, turn off your headphone, look around you. Never go out once dark.
