How to open a broken tailgate

I was looking at multiple videos trying to find this fix! Your was simple-right to the point & It works!!

The bitch is when that breaks and you can't use the damn screwdriver anymore...
I'm gonna have to get it down somehow to replace the assembly.
It's crazy my Avalanche has 300k and runs great but every damn plastic piece in the truck has broken or jammed. Lol

Mine is the Chevy S10, and its annoying having a broken handle. I'll give this a try. Otherwise, I've been using a long thin screwdriver to pop one side latch at a time from the opening between the tailgate and body. I'm going to Pic a Part next week, because it is only $83 for a whole working tailgate.

you have to open the tailgate to get to those "two screws" you removed!

While you got it off you might want to replace it with a Ford handle so it doesn't happen again. Another quick fix would be to tie a rope around tailgate and use a Ford to yank the whole tailgate off :-)
