03:35 How to Open Locked Garage if key lost or lock broken
Hormann up & Over Garage Door series 2000
The video starts by showing the internal mechanism so you can see how it works. It then shows the locations of the two catches that need pushing down. If the lock is broken or you've lost your key the customary way is to drill the barrel out however in certain cases you still might not be able to open the garage door. In my case the latches (catches) had been incorrectly adjusted such that turning the knob was insufficient to release the two catches. The solution shown here is to drill a hand size hole just above each latch. You can then reach in and push the latches down.
Opening the door with the handle
When the garage door is closed with the handle, it is
not locked. To lock the door, use the key or locking snib.
Opening from the outside
Rotate the handle a quarter turn clockwise.
Opening from the inside
Rotate the handle a quarter turn anti-clockwise.
Locking and unlocking the door
From the outside using the key and from the inside
using the locking snib.
Unlocking from the outside
Rotate the key a full turn clockwise and then withdraw it.
Locking from the outside
Rotate the key a full turn anti-clockwise and then
withdraw it.
Locking from the outside - self-latching
Rotate the key a half turn clockwise, slightly open the
door, turn the key back to the starting position and
then withdraw it. Once the door has closed, the lock
is engaged again.
Unlocking from the inside
Push the locking snib to the left.
After unlocking the door in this way, you can then
open it without a key.
Locking from the inside
Push the locking snib to the right.
