Your B58 engine’s oil filter may have more in common with a cookie than you’ve ever thought…

All jokes aside, this is a potentially catastrophic issue that fortunately, has a very simple fix. If you’ve ever removed your BMW’s engine oil filter only to see there was a large chunk of it missing, give this video a watch to learn how to solve the issue once and for all.

If you’re looking for the replacement filter mentioned in this video, check out MMR-MMR171502 on the FCP Euro site.

I've changed the oil on cars where the previous person jammed in their new filter on top of a remaining piece of their previous filter

Lake speed just did a review on stainless steel filters vs paper filters. Paper>Stainless by a long shot

Really, BMW?? Now that the crank hub issue is fixed, the next problem appears😂😂

This is likely happening due to user error when installing the filter, i.e. not seating the filter correctly in either the cap or the housing.

BMW mechanics all agree that you should use an Oem bmw filter on b58. The filters that fail all seem to be aftermarket. Use whatever good brand oil (Amsoil or liquimoly) but you want an Oem filter as they don’t separate
