Back in the 60s, Dodge manufactured it 6 cyl. engines as a "Slant Six", very similar to the BMWs. Those valve covers were also prone to leakage on the low side. Never had a real fix, just replace the valve cover gasket.

I was completely unaware of the injector issue in the gen1. Glad I found this video. I was initially looking for cooling solutions because the b58 gets really hot after spirited driving, so much so, that the heat from the engine warms up the cabin. For sure going to replace them just for peace of mind next time I replace the plugs, may as well replace the valve cover while it's halfway apart as well.

From the picture you showed of the collapsed oil filter, I believe you get what you pay for. Although new to BMW, using the best possible oil filter with some sort of cage for support on the outlet side and changing the oil when required should be all that is necessary. In my life's experiences, the only time you see a filter as bad as that one is because the oil is not being changed when required. Oil and oil filters are always cheaper than letting your engine go.

A coolant overflow cap is not part of an engine. Do the rod bearings wear out every 30k? Does the VANOS system need to be replaced/serviced at 60K? HPPF fail twice in 100k? Sounds like the gaskets are still shit and turn to glass after 50k. If yours is 8 years old and you have not had the intake manifold, head or oil stand housing off, you are doing great! As the owner of an M54 and N54 I do think Toyota's involvement with the development of the Supra has a positive effect on this engine.

My n55 injector failed stuck open, typically this happens when you floor the car or go from comfort to sport, feather the gas then floor it. It causes the solenoid to freak out and fail stuck open. Kill the motor asap and tow it before your engine is toast. It’s avoidable.

Nice video - these are the same items I saw in researching it as well. Do you know if all 2018's are safe? Is there a part number you can check or a VIN/other serial number? Sometimes parts can also change over mid-model year. The other thing I saw but I think mostly applies to B48s is a coolant hose cracking that connects to the head on some models.

Had to replace my valve cover on my 2017 440i GC b58 with 59000 miles..Do have bootmod3 stage 2 with hi flow down pipe.. 2200 dollars smh

So you recommend changing 6x fuel injectors at 100k km? Should they be OEM or Bosch is good enough?

When you had the problem with the coolant, was there any white smoke coming out from the exhaust on idling?

To make sure your injectors, don’t go bad you need to clean them at least every six months to use injector cleaner. You don’t need to change them if you take of them.
