This dude's just regurgitating N54 and N55 platitudes from the forums with no actual B58 knowledge... what a joke, lol.

Coolant loss is common on all vehicle makes and models, I work as a honda tech for 9yrs now and 80% of the cars we do have low to empty coolant in reservoir that had to be top off. For 3 yrs now my B58(M240i) been damn reliable being on stage 2 410whp racing a hell lot every other weekend with zero issue. Don't let this video deterring you from buying a B58, perhaps best engine for modding, they can take a hell of a beating with not much issue.

I’m trying to sum up what I just spent 10 minutes listening to and what I got out of it is the B58 is too new (fact check was out on 2016 models so well before 2019). Because it’s so new I’ve never put my hands on one but BMW has a history of this that and the other thing so you could be in for a rough ride but we just don’t know yet. Awesome...

BMW has a history of problems going back for decades (timing belts popping on the M20, profile gaskets on M42, weak cooling parts on M52 and M54, emissions parts failures on the M57, leaky everything on the N62.). I’m limiting the list to cars with engines that I’ve owned and got my hands dirty on. Most of these issues started popping up fairly early on and were well documented on the forums or the Mike Miller’s of the world while you could still buy a new one. The B58 is now on its fifth year of production and from what I’m seeing online there is nothing that identifies a common trend for a major issue on this engine to date. Nothing. On the G30 forum the biggest recent complaint was that the 2021 configurator wasn’t live in July and the male Karen’s of the world couldn’t build a car they were eager to lease. Compare that to early years of the N54 and US M57.

I was hoping this ten minute video would have a objective repair data, but it’s really click bait.

I’ve heard of these problems and in a group I’m in with 5000+ b58 members i rarely see these problems. Me myself at 61k miles I haven’t had any problems

I haven’t seen major issues with this engine yet. I’ve done a few valve covers. Also some water pump like the B46. I know it’s still kinda new but its good so far.

03:04 The b58 began production in 2015 not "2019 or newer"..

Nathan, sunscreen please! Been watching for over a year since buying my 2012, 128i, E88, N52. You get burned all the time, not cool. Stage 3 metastasize melanoma survivor. 10 hour surgery, bilateral groin dissection to remove my lymph nods. Beard is kind of cheesy. I'll give it a couple of weeks.

I'm on my 2nd one, Toyota trusts it and so do I.

2018 440i 50K miles, water pump just went bad. It's covered under the BMW CPO warranty, glad it happened now. One more year to go on the warranty hopefully all the kinks get worked out now! ;) This is the only issue I've had with the car thus far, it might start costing money in the future but it's a blast to drive and nobody ever said BMWs were cheap to own.

B58 is not a 2019 engine, it’s 2015 engine, it’s been out for nearly 5 years now. It’s a 2019 Toyota engine option, not BMW.

I'm all for creators, and the BMW community. This is the WORST most MISINFORMED video I've ever watched on this topic. If anyone is reading this, look elsewhere for a guide on the B58.

This dude is a joke 🤣 follow my Instagram @ness_214_ and see what I put my 2016 bmw 340i zf8 speed trans through races, burnouts, donuts actually drifting no issues at all and I’m at 75k miles 20k miles of it was tuned on stage 2 MHD e30 this dude sounds like a n54 fan boy haha “dual clutch” “2019 and up” “the car is to new” “keeps on mentioning rod bearing” even tho that has never happened to the b58 lmfao 🤣

Look this is overblown. The radiator cap o-rings is a problem overtime but so is improper flush-fill of coolant at the assembly plant and service centers causing air gaps in the line which overtime makes it look like its drinking coolant. Sometimes the coolant tank under pressure developes leaks as well. The VANOS valves are redesigned and largely run by two magnetic actuators near the rear of the engine and is reachable. Oil filter disintegration usually happens because the mechanic is in a rush and yanks the filter out since its on an awkward angle.. its user-error and the fact people run too high on oil change intervals (BMW fault on interval recommendations). The only thing that is a potential problem is the gaskets and the expensive valve cover. THAT I am afraid of but that is a problem for any BMW not just the B58. Surprise: the B58 is a commendable reliable engine from BMW. It really is a gem.

I had 2017 340i. Aside loss of coolant, no other issues you mentioned. Ran the car hard. Downpipe, tune with methanol injection. 28lbs of boost. Mann oil filter never showed any signs of deteriorating. Changed oil every 5k and sent oil to blackstone lab for analysis. Aside lead (due to race fuel) everything was in normal range. Before i got rid of the car it had 33k miles

B58 utilizes either the ZF automatic trans, or the Manual, not a dual clutch.

2017 340i owner with 94k miles. I daily drive the shit out of my car and haven’t had to add coolant or a single quart of oil. I regularly drive to redline and launch the car off the line as well as high speeds on highways in Mexico ;) Only issue I have ever had is the active exhaust rattle and interior rattles
