Everybody I test has low CO2 and a high anion gap across the board, which is indicative of a Zn deficiency. To make Carbonic acid you must have the Zn-dependent carbonic anhydrase enzyme to make carbonic acid, which is why Zn is the great alkaline mineral because it gives you your bicarbonate buffering system. Furthermore, if you see high insulin, high lactic acid, and low Alk Phos, that will also be indicative of a Zn deficiency. Even the WHO, not the band but the World Health Organization, is on record telling us 1/3 of the world population has a gross Zn deficiency, and I am on record saying that most in this western world are walking around with a marginal subclinical Zn deficiency.
