John Deere x738 vs John Deere 1025r or John Deere x758 vs John Deere 1025r.

We're comparing a John Deere x738/x758 garden tractor vs a John Deere 1023e/1025r subcompact tractor in today's video. There are some major differences between these two machines. Surprisingly, the price isn't one of those big differences. The John Deere x700 Series is still a great machine for those who have a handful of specific needs, but the John Deere 1 Series is going to provide a lot more bang for the buck. So, watch the video to get a more in depth look at the differences between these John Deere tractors.

When I bought my X739 a handful of years ago the 1025R was cheaper with a mowing deck, and snowblower. It was just too big for my needs. Love my X739.

My 1023e tlb and x300 have two different uses. X series with bagger around and under trees in half the time, my hat is my clearance indicator. The 1023e running the loader or back hoe all day long on less than half the fuel. Throw the snow push on the 4 wheel drive diesel vs a plow and chains with weights on the x series and life is fun for the old man. Do your bucket list while you still can. These things will make you smile.

Local JD dealer sent me a loaner x739 while I was waiting for my 1025R...Nice lil tractor. Loved the all wheel steering turning on a dime. Very cool! Almost changed my mind....But I really wanted the backhoe, so I didn't change my mind..Nothing against the X but I am glad I didn't change...Thanks for sharing!

I have a 2017 2032r and a 2013 x758.
x758 has a lower center of gravity. You really notice while mowing sideways when you have no other options on steep hills. You don't get that clinching experience.
x758 has awd all the time, so you don't have to remember when engaging it..
x758 gets better traction, hands down. Even if you engage the 4wd on the 2032r for side hill mowing or even slight hills, if you hit a wet spot you can see the front wheels slide a bit and it is unnerving. The x758 doesn't budge in the same spot. In fact, I drove my x758 left side tires about 1 foot into our pond (blades not on) and it came right out without spinning. I wouldn't even try that with the 2032r.
x758 does not tear the grass up as much or leave ruts. This is definitely noticeable in the fall for leaf cleanup when the ground is not optimally dry.
x758 attachments are just as expensive as the tractor. So, remember that. I purchased mine just to mow. I spend money on the attachments for the tractor.
x758 has tighter turning radius and you don't have to worry about rops hitting low hanging limbs.
Both are easy to work on. I don't think the autoconnect is worth it for the x758. It takes just as long as without this feature.

Now, they both are an investment and hold their values. You can do more with the tractor, but again, if you can find both used, you won't lose your money if you decide to sell either one. I bought the 2032r tlb with 72" deck with 220 hours for $25k from an individual. I didn't want it to mow because I had a JD z910. However, I stumbled across an x758 with 192 hours on it for $8k (60" hc deck) and jumped all over it. Sold the zero turn and do not regret it. Takes me 10 minutes longer to mow with x758 vs the z910a, but reduced my weedeating by 20 minutes because the x758 gets the entire edge of the pond and all the ditches. Again, if you can afford it and are on the fence, get the tractor and the x758. You will not lose your money like when purchasing a vehicle.
If I had flat ground, I never would have purchased the x758. You just have to make that decision on your own.

Cody, A very helpful review, I didn't realize the X758 didn't come standard with a rear PTO and 3pt hitch where the 1925R does along with getting a heavier frame and front axel. I also forgot about the H/L range of the transmission on the 1025R which is not available on the X758 or that the joy stick controls were that different.
Glad you mentioned the price comparison too as I now see where the 1025R is the way to go. Thanks

Great conversation. Both very nice machines for sure. As an x738 owner with a 60 inch deck and 47 in blower that lives in minnesota. 80% of machine hours is mowing for me, and this is the Cadillac of mowers. With that being said, I can blow snow like I never thought possible with a “lawn tractor” with the 4x4

I have a 1025R with the same cab and I LOVE it! My dealer just put a air ride seat on it and it's fantastic. You will love it. I also have a 739 and I love it as well. two great tractors!

I had a x729, 2009 vintage, beautiful gas mower, all wheel steer, 4 wheel, 54” mower deck, 48” snow blower, which worked great with no chains or wheel weights. Worked great on my 6 acres with lots of trees to mow around. Upgraded to 1025r last fall. Great machine too, turning radius is fine, works great on snow removal and grass cutting. The 1025r has more levers and buttons to play with, lol, makes you feel like a heavy equipment operator. My 54” auto connect mower deck doesn’t have the load-n-go feature, newer models this year you can upgrade to a deck with the load-n-go deck in 54”. I would have upgraded to the Versatrac radial tires for better ride. Wish the 1025r had an air suspension seat! Get the arm rests for comfort. Also please remember if you get a 1025r with a loader, you’ll need a ballast box or rear weights for safety.

Learned a couple things here...the diesel rendition of the x738 is the x758 . . . didn't know they even had a diesel. I also learned that the seat on the 738 is lower than the 1025R. I also learned that the x738 can be fitted with cab heat. And finally, I learned that a bit of strawberry jam with peanut butter on toast goes really good with corn flakes! Awesome Saturday Morning with GWT!! :)

I'm a SGT guy, but the price and capability forced me into a 1023E. The 1 Series package is hard to beat

This past October I bought a 1025R with bucket loader and 54 inch mower deck. I had the Versa Turf radial tires put on it. I am finding that I am digging up the lawn with the Versa Turf tires.
But I am mowing with the bucket loader on the front. Now (JAN 22) that I am getting used to the 1025R, I will probably use my old X390 for mowing (two three acres of grass and hills). I'll use the 1025R for moving logs, split firewood, stacking firewood, and moving brush and rocks. I am not comfortable with the lean on the 11025r on the side hills. Plan to get a York rake and a 1500 snow pusher this year. Also I have 12 acres of land mostly woods. and my driveway is 1/4 mile long up a hill and it is paved.

I had a 738 and now have a 1025. BOTH great machines. At times I wish I had the x series back. In a perfect world both would be nice to have, only next time it would be a x758.

I agree 100%. I have a X495 that I have had for 15+ years. A great diesel mower with a 62 inch deck. Since then, I bought property and now have a total of 18 acres, wooded and open. I was looking for a 1025R, 2032R or 2038R but found a steal on a 3025E that I could not pass up. Problem is now I have two tractors to store and take care of. Knowing what I know now and needing to do more than just mow, the 1025R is a no brainer.

Another great video! I’m sure your customers appreciate your green knowledge. The X7 doesn’t scalp as much as the 1 series do also.
