We have a Boerboel and she is loving, naturally protective (guardian), aloof and very independent. That independence kind of removes, to a degree, that "need to please" found in Shepard type breeds. We chose the Boerboel because we wanted a built in guardian for our ranch that would guage threat levels on it's own without over reacting. So far she's everything and more.
