Amazing Calculus Book for Beginners from the Great Depression

Показать описание
The preface of this book is dated December 1929. The stock market crashed on October 24th and 29th of 1929. This is considered the start of the Great Depression in the United States and this calculus book was used to teach calculus during that era. This book is amazing for beginners because it has clear explanations and answers to almost all of the problems. It is also great for people who already know calculus because in some cases the explanations are different from what you would find in modern books. It also has some unique topics that you don't see in newer books. The book is called "The Calculus" and it was written by Dalaker and Hartig.

Here are a few copies I found(editions vary).

As someone else mentioned, these old books seem so focused and concise. No CD, website, calculator hints.

This looks like another one I would like to read someday. I am about halfway through another old calculus book you reviewed: "Calculus Made Easy"; it's helping me quickly pick up Calculus again after having not studied it in 10+ years. The older books definitely have some interesting content.

The best book for learning calculus is the one you have! (Except for where your course requires something different)

I found a funny in a weird way card in a second hand mathematics book. I had ordered a second hand copy of 'Introduction to Combinatorics' by Alan Slomson, to compliment my copy of Peter Cameron's book Combinatorics: Topics, Techniques and Algorithms. Inside Slomson's book was an old receipt. The name on the receipt: Peter Cameron.

One of them was also one of my university lecturers. Small world.

A very good book that has Calculus 1, 2, and 3 is "Integral Calculus" by Shanti Narayan, it is about the same size as this book.

Interesting spelling of coordinates as "coördinates" at 8:21. Wonder if that is how it used to be spelled.

This book was published in 1935. It should be in the public domain, at 87 years later, but only available for digital loan. For me this is a travesty.
