Cannot stress enough flying in a day (or two ) early - especially since airlines are unpredictable/ unreliable these days. Re: Travel insurance it's better to have it & not need it than to need it & not have it!

When we pick up a cruise out of the United States, we always fly in three days early and enjoy the city. We get to see the city and get over any jet lag, as well as enjoy some great restaurants and get relaxed.

Being trapped on a ship with someone you’re having problems with is crazy.
Also a travel agent helps if you are having documentation issues. You have a human to contact and they can help get other straightened out. I haven’t traveled overseas but from horror stories I have heard. I won’t go overseas without one.

If you decide to use a travel agent, be sure to check reviews! Used one in 2005 and he got us on the boat, but one of my excursions didnt get booked and was sold out by the time we found out. I think he went out of business not long after, so I felt lucky nothing else went wrong. Only been on two since, they were both company paid.

My tip for deciding the value/cost of a cruise is to deduct the embarkation and disembarkation days and that will give true $/day spend. Often we think wow 7 days for X amount of $ when in reality it is 5 days.

Here is my tip; hurry up, and wait. It is better to hurry up, and then wait on the ship than it is to wait, and to hurry up to get on the ship.
