Coronavirus outbreak: B.C. confirms 55 new COVID-19 cases, 2 deaths | FULL

British Columbia's provincial health officer Dr. Bonnie Henry and Health Minister Adrian Dix gave an update on the latest COVID-19 cases in the province and to discussed the government's ongoing response to the pandemic on Tuesday.

Henry confirmed 55 new cases of COVID-19 in B.C. and two additional deaths. There are 2,053 confirmed cases of the disease in the province, and 1,190 of those have fully recovered. The death toll stands at 105.

Ninety-four people are in hospital — a decrease of three patients from Monday — while 37 patients are in intensive care.

A majority of the new cases are linked to the outbreaks at two chicken processing facilities in Metro Vancouver, Henry said. There are 46 cases at Superior Poultry in Coquitlam and 34 at United Poultry in East Vancouver.

There are two additional cases at Mission Institution, bringing the total to 120 inmates and 12 staff members.

As an immobile (wheelchair bound) senior with comorbidities, I consider the fact that the wearing of masks is not mandatory to be criminal negligence on the part of BC’s health authorities.

Dr. Henry, you forgot the purpose for flattening the curve is not to stop the spread but to slow it down. the hospitals are not going to be overwhelmed any time soon so how about showing some common sense and opening the economy back up. Most people in BC live in the lower mainland and most are relatively wealthy with one family per home. no grandparents, uncles, nieces, aunts living in the same apartment like so many other countries (china etc). this thing is never going to overwhelm our hospitals. we are too spread out in bc. noone smokes. can you give us a frickin break here!! why can't you adapt to what the numbers are doing?

Respectfully restrictions could have been eased this week or last in BC. Business are suffering and medical experts don't seem to be concerned about the economic impacts for many small business owners.

How to ease restrictions: Mandatory MASK USE! Look at South Korea everyone is back to work and the mask use there is 99%. Businesses can function again. Medical experts: 'But there are no studies to prove Mask use stops the spread of Covid-19'. Rebuttal: Are there studies that show hand washing stops the spread of Covid-19. Answer: No. This is a new virus, there are no specific studies done yet pertaining to this specific virus. Please stop downplaying the use of Masks. Wear Masks (it's common sense), maintain this new normal with social distancing and hand washing and get small businesses running again!!

they didn’t say mask use was useless but that when people are not accustomed to wearing a mask it actually makes them more likely to touch their faces and can INCREASE the risk of contracting any disease. Compared to keeping social distance and WASHING YOUR HANDS AND DON’T TOUCH YOUR FACE when in public, which works with MUCH HIGHER EFFECTIVENESS. Please do not judge what you do not understand.
