Coronavirus outbreak: B.C. confirms 40 new COVID-19 cases, 1 new death

British Columbia’s provincial health officer, Dr. Bonnie Henry, confirmed 40 new cases of COVID-19 across the province and one new death, bringing the total number of cases to 271.

The new death is linked to a cluster of cases at North Vancouver’s Lynn Valley Care Centre.

Henry also urged B.C. residents Thursday to take social and physical distancing measures more seriously.

“This is not optional,” she said. “Everybody needs to take these actions now. The importance can not be minimized.”

Henry and Dix will be remembered for their poor choices and misinformation. Always reacting instead of getting out ahead and proactively shutting things down. What happened to TRANSPARENCY, CLARITY and CONSISTENCY? Just the other day she told us all to take our families to Whistler. Whistler, making decisions proactively shut down the next day.

Dix states "we need to do this 100%", yet in the meantime planes are still landing at YVR from foriegn countries, with zero screening accept for a question if they are feeling sick.

Why not shut down the whole province for one month ! Minus essential services everyone stay put, if your sick you will get help faster after a month the all clear bell, test and quarantine all people coming in after that month has passed, until this is over, just a thought 💭

Why don’t they tell exactly where those cases are? It would be helpful for people to avoid going to certain areas. Why are they hiding the facts? That’s the measure some countries used to successfully contain the spread. Why are they still try to do the minimum when it’s clear that the risk is getting higher and many more people will die from this?

To avoid anxiety and depression, stop watching news and the internet for how it is going. Just watch TV shows, or movies and Netflix, Prime videos, or read a book, garden, play games, clean your house, enjoy family time. There are lots of things you can do online without having to tune into this virus disaster.

I work in a big box store. Please parents leave your children at home when you come to shop. I can't express enough how important this is for everyone's safety.

People are just so ignorant and careless. I still see coffee shops open and at Safeway people not keeping the distance at all. I don't understand why Henry just asking people to distance and self isolate, it should be mandatory!!!! Ultimately, it's governments' fault. Italians said it too, it got to this point, because not the government nor the people took it seriously in the beginning

People can’t see their elderly parents 😢and they need us for emotional support 🌷but if they have dementia or Alzheimer’s it’s difficult to even talk to your parents over the phone 😢( miss my dad who lives in HARO PLACE)

I feel bad for Mrs Henry. At first I thought she was uninformed but it's clear she knew full well we would be in this position but has been muzzled from speaking the truth. Why else would she be in tears last week while we were being told the risk is low, carry on as normal, don't wear a mask, testing the asymptomatic was pointless, travel restrictions were unnecessary. There is no way the messaging would do a complete 180 without direction over a few hundred more cases in a population of 5 million. What she is saying now was obviously applicable weeks ago but all that's been achieved since then is an accelerated pandemic. The Federal government has a lot to answer for and the Provincial government too for not pushing back against really dumb policy.
